Hey guys.

1989 BJ74. 24v. RHD.

Wiper motor works fine in intermittent and low speeds. When I put it to “hi” it works but goes slightly slower than “low” speed.

Took it apart and the brushes look to have life left in them.

The other internal part where the switching mechanism has tabs sliding along a surface where three different connections are made may be suspect. I say “may be” because I don’t know what it’s supposed to look like in there!

Pics to show what I found. Any help identifying the issue is greatly appreciated.

My assumption is that the most inner ring, where it has a gap/hole along the metal raceway, is the “hi” speed and there’s not supposed to be a gap there. But I’m assuming.

If you get stuck I can probably dig around and find some other 24v wiper motors for parts.

being backwards and 24v will make this info less useful, but I had a 42 with a dodgy wiper motor (not surprising as it was from here, so the freaking thing was on for 30 years straight. )

The only thing that made it different from the 12v version was the armature itself. So I swapped that into a barely used wiper motor from a desert fj40 and it was good as new.

Point is, all that stuff in the base could likely be stolen from a 12v 60 motor if need be and the if internals are the same, chances are it's just the base casting that's different (lot of ifs there I know...)

Put it back together and it still works in intermittent and slow, so I’m crossing my fingers for now.

However, if anyone has a wiper motor laying around, I’d be tempted to look into Seapotato’s advice and see if things could match up somehow.
