windshield vent?

hey guys the vent just behind the hood but in front of the windshield , does it open somehow? mine never did open or not since i've owned it anyhow. is one of the knobs on the dash supposed to open it? got a couple of those that don't work also, just curious thanx...

It's a cowl vent. Some time around '74 or '75 (IIRC), they became non-functional.

Depends on the region. Mine is an 1980 from Central America and the vent DID work at one time. However the P.O failed to close it one rainy season and water poured in. I figured this out as I was trying to see how the mechanism worked. I found the whole thing siliconed and glued shut and the area around it had lots of water streaks and ribbons of rust.
FYI One day when I'm done with the build and have some time to spare I'm gonna get the parts together to make it work again.
