Hello all,

I haven't introduced the new to me LX470 to the forum yet, but I have a question with a bit of urgency. I had the windshield replaced as part of the purchase of my 2005 LX, and the seal that runs along the roof from windshield to roof rack seems to have become "raised" in the past week and a half. No discernible leaks yet, but was wondering what the forum would recommend to fill in and "seal" the seal to ensure no water makes it inside? Or should I just take it back to the dealership and hassle them to fix it?

Last time I had the windshield on my rig replaced, it had the same issue. I talked to the installer, applied some clear silicon and then taped it down until it dried. No leaks and still holds.

That molding probably should have been replaced with the windshield. It's hard to get insurance to buy. If the installer urethaned it down to the wind shield and roof, I'd want it replaced.

I pried mine up more and put in a strip of 3m body molding double sided tape. Opened drivers window and clamped overnight with woodworking clamps

Or should I just take it back to the dealership and hassle them to fix it?

Do this. There are many horror stories about bad replacements (myself included) so be as picky as possible. I also recommend running it through a carwash and/or soaking it really well with a hose to check for leaks. A competent shop won't mind you bugging them to do everything right.

I see leaks and annoying wind noise in your future. Have it repaired properly by the installers asap. The fsm instructions for LC/LX windshield replacements are floating around here. Might be worthwhile printing them off for talking points with the installers.

They bent the roof drip moldings when they took them off to get the old windshield out. They run about $125 per side. Make the dealer replace them since they bent them. I used 3M double sided tape to hold them down when mine got bent, but since you have some recourse with the dealer I would definitely get them to replace the bent moldings...even if you have to pay for the parts and they eat the labor. Get it done right now and you will save yourself a lot of headaches in the future.

I had my windshield replaced about a year ago by a guy who does glass for Lexus, MBZ, Porsche, etc. dealers in Boise. The moldings on both sides were about half an inch above the roof line when he started. I asked him how they could be laid down in contact with the roof before he started. His answer was he spent the time to form them correctly as he installed them. He spent about 10 minutes working with each side, and when he finished both were perfectly flush and tight with the roof. He stuck about a 1" piece of 3M mounting tape at the rear of each molding, and both are still tight as a drum.

My conclusion it's the patience of the installer to get them right during installation, since once they're riveted on there's not enough clearance between the roof and molding to correctly bend them into place.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Seeing as it was part of the purchase and I definitely paid "extra" to have some work done before I picked it up, I am going to pressure the dealership to fix it. The FSM states to use new "upper outside mouldings," but also states moulding can be re-used if removed with care to avoid damaging it. It certainly looks re-used and no longer has the clean "oem" look. I have already spoken with LOA, so if the dealership gives me grief, I will pursue it through corporate.

Thanks for all of the help.
