My 1996 FZJ needs a new windshield. After reading several posts here in seems apparent the 'windshield specialists' won't be doing the job properly. Does anyone know of any competent installers in NJ, preferably Monmouth County? Thank you,
Bob

There is one in north plainfield that I go to.. Actual shop that specialize in glass..

Thanks KKAAAR. Do you by chance know the name of the North Plainfield shop? There is Quality Auto Glass and also NJM Auto Glass on Rt 22, in addition to Gorkin Glass on Race Street. Thanks again, Bob

Spend some time searching the windshield replacement threads here. Be sure to tell whoever does the actual installation to glue the gasket on both the body side AND glass side. It is specified in the FSM as well.

Thanks Jon, I am continuing to research the windshield replacement. Calling around, not many installers are interested in the FSM process. Even the dealer doesn't do installations of glass, they farm it out. Bob

I think a new wind shield is in my near future :( got a little nick in it on the road the other day. I am interested to know a good place to go if the crack grows....
Has anyone done or have done a repair to a little chip with success ?

Ive had one repaired on my FZJ80 a few years ago no problems with it also my old fj40 too . The last was my ford van that took a nasty rock chip at the bottom below the wiper blade right in the middle . I had it fixed but you can still see it as it was real deep. The dude did the best that he could but you can see it from inside the van . I dont care about seeing it as its below the wiper so its not in the line of sight . I was more worried about it cracking with the defrosters on high with snow on the windshield . been good for 2 years now .
If your old windsheild dosn't leak try getting it repaired 1st I think I paid about $40
just get it done soon as you want to keep the crap out of it. I put clear packing tape on the van one as I knew it was bad to keep the dirt and any water out of it till they worked on it

Thanks for the tape tip it's above the wiper zone and all the way in the upper right corner. Was it a resin type repair or is it a heat thing.

Thanks again for all the comments/suggestions. I haven't yet located an installer willing to follow the FSM. They won't even apply the urethane on both sides of the gasket, claiming there is an adhesive already on the gasket and the glass/gasket seal needs nothing additional...<sigh>

If you're paying them to do it I don't get why they won't unless they think they will be responsible for a leak.
