Just had my 2nd windshield put in. My guess is that this is the 4th windshield the truck has had.

History: I paid out of pocket in 2021 after buying my LX and noticing some whistling noises on the drive home. Glass was Fuyao but used all the other associated Toyota parts during install + have a local installer here who does the job by the book.

Three years of driving left me with a couple rock chips so I submitted a claim for my $0 glass deductible. Shop called me and I had them submit the estimate using Lexus glass, side trim, top trim, and rivets. They were very skeptical and I was ready to put up a fight... BUT a day later it was approved.

I use Travelers for insurance. So if you do and you need a windshield, it’s worth asking! Even the Lexus glass is made in Indonesia now, but it’s AGC and matches the rest of the truck again.

What shop did you take it to? Did they do a good job?
I haven't gone in yet because, well, it doesn't rain where I am all summer. Also, they price they quoted me on an OEM windshield was outrageous ($2K) so I asked if I could source the windshield myself. I found one in San Jose that should be available for $600 (bronze, too).

The shop is Grainger Auto Glass in Santa Rosa. Recommended by my local dealership (Freeman Toyota) as they do not do windshields in house anymore.

Was that quote for just the glass?

Remember that you will also need both side trim pieces, upper trim, and rivets. The rubber covers for each side trim can be reused if yours are in good shape.

My invoice for install with all these pieces came out to just short of $1700. But insurance paid every penny.

That was for the glass alone, the whole job was going to run me $3K for parts and labor. N California prices......

I am going to source the glass myself which should get me closer to the price you paid in MPLS.

Insanity they quoted you that on glass. The prices at dealers do vary, but never seen a piece sitting at $2k. Even an OE Nightview glass isnt that much.

Thats the “we dont wanna do the job go away” price.

I would agree, but this shop has an agreement with the dealership which is located around the corner from them, to do all their windshield replacement work. I think it's more "we have you over a barrel" pricing. Very opportunistic.

Just picked up my glass (bronze tint) and all the rubber pieces, clips, and rivets. Got everything from Park Place Lexus for $970 after tax. Only thing I didn’t get were the outer trim pieces that go from the bottom of the windshield to the roof. Couldn’t bring myself to pay $200 each. Mine are still in really good shape anyway. Found a local shop that’ll come to my house and install for $280. They do a lot of the Toyota dealerships around here and are familiar with the install. Cannot wait to get this done!

Had this done past year by the shop in the first video. They did a great job. One thing however. He found the oem rivets to be too small and had to much play. Luckily he had extras and those for give and snug to hold the side trim.View attachment 3693897View attachment 3693898View attachment 3693899 give and snug to hold the side trim.
Thanks for the info. Unfortunately that shop is in corona, ca which is in Los Angeles. I’m close to San Francisco and am looking for a shop around the San Francisco Bay area

Question for you, do the stoppers come installed on the factory glass? If they are I would love a picture of how they are mounted.

I had my windshield replaced last week for $350 by Safelight. At my office while I was at work. And the installer had to call another for the correct rivet gun - they did it correctly and it looks great. FWIW, they quoted me an OEM for another $400 or so, but at the rate that I go through windshields on the interstate it wasn't worth the money to me.

I'll take a picture once the installer is there and it's unwrapped.

You got lucky. Probably all depends on the Safelite. The one I talked to that services my area had no idea what I was talking about when I asked them about the rivets.

I specified in the "comments" when booking that the tech had to use the OEM style rivets, could not use screws and that I would be watching while he/she did the install. The guy who showed up, when I asked, walked me through the install and was spot on so I left him to work. I do agree that it depends on the Safelite, and they were not my first choice but out worked out well. Just throwing that out as an option because none of the local glass places wanted to deal with it and I didn't want to be robbed by the dealer.

I asked my local dealership and they said their techs don't do it. The hire a third party to do it. So yea, can't even trust the dealership to rob you properly. Lol.
