I finally broke down and bought a winch - many thanks to those who've extricated me in the past...

The cable didn't have a hook. So, I checked Home Depot. Basic solution - since a winch capacity is much more than a typical application by size of cable, I didn't trust the little cable clamps. So, I went to Desert Rat. They had nothing, except the information that Clark Equipment Co.:
Clark Truck Equipment Inc.

is the "red letter dealer" in NM, meaning they could work on the winches. So, I went over there. They directed me to Wisco:
Wisco Supply, Inc.

who put a loop on the end of my cable for $15. When I was walking out, they told me they would sell me, and hook up (with my hardware except the clamps), a new 150 foot cable for my 8274 winch, for $75. They use a 500 ton press for the ends... Sounds like a good deal.

If anything it good to know those resources exist in Albuquerque. What business is Wisco Supply into? In other words, how would you look them up in the phone book?

I have bought several things from Wisco Supply including large sized Crosby D-shackles. Decent pricing and they will take you in the back to look through their selection of products if needed.
