Had my eye on a Warn 9.5 for some time but am now a little put out by their poor treatment of bro Beaufort. Maybe we should mount a campaign to call 'em & ask if they have anything that'll fit a 60. Then take down the names of the assholes & their immediate supervisors, & keep going up the ladder until the attitude changes. Reporting rude behavior to the a******'s supervisor usually gets results.

I know from experience that there are people in customer service that don't belong there. I could reel off the names of quite a few CSRs I've employed who went off on customers in my absence. I wish all of those customers would have called me at the time. The 2-faced assholes covered up their surly attitudes & I only learned the bad stuff after they were gone. No telling how many otherwise happy customers I've lost because of assholes working for me.

I bought a used Warn 8274 winch several years ago. The thing needed to be taken apart and serviced. While at a local 4x4 show, I stopped by the Warn booth and asked if it was possible to get a manual for it. He took my info and 2 days later a copy of a service manual arrived in the mail. That's service.

I also have an older (think late 60's) Warn 8000 (I think that's the number). This was the model before the 8274 and the controls are operated by control cables. Anyhow, that thing is such a work horse! I can't tell you how many times I've pulled myself and others out with that thing, often after a higher rated winch has failed.

This leads to my opinion of winch ratings. Winches have turned into fashion statements on 4x4s. I think the marketing departments play with the pound rating of winches. I've pulled out so many rigs after their much higher rated winches have either refused to or flat out burned out with my old warn. Seems like in the old days, they must have used a different way of measuring the rating of a winch.

That being said, companies change, products change. And if I recall, Warn was sold several years ago.

I have the ARB Bull Bar and according to ARB the only winchs that fir are the M10000, M12000, M15000. I found a gently M12000 on ebay for 850 shipped. I love it really pulls.

I don't know that I buy this about Warn. Their technical service is great in my opinion. One of their technical reps, Steve Schoenfelder has come to Cruise Moab in '03 and '05. He's a great guy and was handing out schwag and solenoids if you needed a spare. I sent hem an email about an 8274 that I bought used and got back complete technical details about rebuilding it and links to all the needed parts. Warn sends him all over the world for various competitions-and their true objective is to make a better winch. Show me the Chinese winch company that does that.

I find it difficult to believe that anyone in a customer service position would call any vehicle "crap", it just doesn't make sense-their real objective is to sell you a winch and make you happy. Beaufort-you can PM me the name and the day you called Warn and I'll ask Steve to look into it. He has serious pride in his company and would make sure you get an apology and that this never happens again.

Think about it, no one has any major quality problems with Warn winches. They are US made and have a complete inventory of parts. They support old winches for decades after production. Ancient Bellviews and 8274s are ressurected every day because Warn is still supporting them 20 or 30 years after they made them. Can you say that about all the crappy Chinese winches that have been hitting the US market the last few years?

Warn makes a good winch, and Ramsey makes a good winch. In my view all other offshore winches are suspect. As you know, when you need a winch, you really need it, and it isn't the time to quibble over a couple of hundred $. I would not decide what winch to buy or not buy based on some idle chat on the internet. In my opinion you should buy the best quality that you can possibly afford.

Disclaimer-I own an 8274 and an M12000, both Warn of course.

My only direct experience with Warn Industries was a number of years ago. I have a Willys CJ2A flatfender, and needed to set it up with a FF rear end for towing. I called Warn and asked if they offered the FF axle kit for the Dana 41 rear axle. They said no, but they could make me one. I ordered it and they delivered in couple of weeks. I has been on the little truck for a number of years, and is very relaible.

No problems for me. I think Beaufort got some a****** on the phone that Warn would fire in a heartbeat if they knew about the conversation.

They are pretty Jeep centric, tho' - that's how the began - as a Willys dealer - and invented the locking hubs for the Willys.

A long time, in another life, I saw a Land Cruiser wagon use a Warn M12000 and dual batteries pull itself out of a deep river hole after the engine died. Since that day, I've been sold on electric winches and have avoided both PTO's and hydraulic winches.

I am a Warn believer. Great product, great customer service. My BTJ62 has a Warn M10000 up front, got that model because I got a great deal on it. If I had to do it again, I'd probably get the M15000.

That said, YEARS ago I had a SuperWinch OX (10,000 lb. capacity) on an FJ70 and I put that winch through hell and back, what a great winch! Heavy and ugly and it blocked a lot of air flow to my 3F, but it never failed and I was blatantly abusing it.

I've found that through all that I've looked at that there are a few companies out there that have products that are a bit more quality, and paying the extra buck is well worth it...

Right now I have a ramsey out in my garage that is in pieces... Mainly because the housing has a tendancey to carode, in just about anyweather, which has stopped the electrons from flowing were they need to be... Needles to say, I'm not a fan....

A milmarker electic is a copy of Ramseys with a spacific change: Bushings insted of bearings... This is the cause of the MM's slow line speed. It also cause the winch to heat up much faster, which in dire situations, can be bad. Edit: the MM si series like the one posted in the link above is more like a warn or a T-max... There new.

Warn winches, hands down are a great winch. But, IMO they are not the end all be all of winches. Infact I'd dare say a large part of there success is there advertiesing. The made in USA thing is nice but, obviously Warn doesn't have a problem with haveing stuff made in china, and neather does anyone that shops at walmart, so whats the big deal.

Superwinch is a good quality winch. From what I've heard the EP series is the way to go...

T-max winches are probobly the closest winch in comparison to warn, in performance and design and no there not just an expensive MM. T-max makes a winch for MM, that is all.

One of the mags recenly did a winch comparison. I would check that out before you buy, it gives good info...

I checked my old emails and the "warn" ones were erased. It's up to you whether you believe me or not, just letting others know my personal experience. I didn't bash the product, just had extra crappy phone service, that's it.

warn vs. milemarker

Both Milemarker and Marn are good winches, I have seen both in action. Warn is definitely the better winch but not by much. I would still save the extra dollars to buy the Warn because it is made in the USA not in China like the MM (hench the cheaper cost). Plus MM has sold to the U.S Gov all of the winches that are on the HUM-V's, which drastically reduces the cost when you sell a buttload. American service might be crap but the American worker still makes the better product.

I 100% sure as OME that make dakar spring aout of autralia .. warn goes at the same way .. Globalisation .. maybe, but sure is the way .. Makybe warn start with some parts asembled in china or in malasia .. and ends with hole winch made autside of USA.
