I'm trying to find a light, low profile bumper to replace the crappy stock Taco bumper, and I'm wanting a winch to go with it.

Crushers recommended a Warn 8274.... new they cost over $2k :(

Are there a lot of used ones out there? There's a thread up where a guy got one that needed work for $250 - I'd definitely be up for rebuilding a winch to save $$$.

Why the 8274? What's the difference? Is there a difference between the new 8274 and an older one? (functionally, aside from generation 'upgrades'). I don't need anything fast, I'm a patient man.

Thanks for helping a winch newbie....

On a Taco I would use something like a Warn M8000. Basic planetary winch. GOOD winch. You will not have any cause to complain about it.

An 8274 would be a tough fit on a Taco unless you build a bumper that sticks out quite a bit.

Hi All:

X 2 what Mark W wrote.

The M8272 is an excellent electric winch, but also a heavy, awkward piece of machinery.

A low-profile electric winch would fit much easier on your Tacoma pick-up. The Warn M8000 can be pick-up on the internet for less than US$550.00 and is a quality winch.

Regards,

Alan

Great info :) Light weight is paramount to me.

Any suggestion where to get it from?

GoWarn.com and 4WhweelParts.com regularly advertise them for $539. Can't go wrong with the WARN M8000 for your application.

For an inexpensive but good winch I also recommend the Warn M8000. I have it on my FJ Cruiser and it works well. If I ever need more power I put a block on it. For a lightweight bumper consider some tube.

Yup, M8000s can be had for $550 frequently with shipping included online.

I have an 8274 on my Pig and love it - strong, fast, dependable but large and expensive when compared to the M8000.
