Has anyone worked out the weight difference between wire winch cable and synthetic ?

It is considerable.

But choose your winch "line" based on intended use and suitability, not on weight savings.

WAG--about 25 pounds. The synthetic is essentially weightless. The wire rope is 25-35 pounds depending on length, size, etc.

Just me, but I like the wire rope just fine.

WAG - 200' of 5/16" weighs about 40 lbs. That's what I use for pulling firewood.

I agree with Drew. I like the wire rope just fine. Plus, I can buy 3-4 times as much wire rope for the cost of the synthetic. :hmm:
