I have a 79 BJ40 with 24 v electricals.
I am getting ready to install a 24 v 8274 winch (lots of grunt!)

The truck runs on two 12v batteries in series. I still have the original alternator, but don't know what its amperage is.

What is my best bet for batteries, assuming the thing will be parked for most weekdays and run for a Saturday, and the winch getting a workout. (Don't say Optima, because the budget won't stretch that far) I'm looking for other options.
Do deep cycle marine batteries make sense? How many cold cranking amps and what about reserve etc.

Thanks, All, for your input.

just go with a couple of decent regular batteries, if you can't afford optimas, deep cycle is more for slow discharge, and really high CCA batteries supposedly have problems with durability, the more dense, closer plates have more potential for fuggin up, bridging/shorting/just not working out well from what I have heard. I use a middle of the road battery, with a tested good charging system, and it's golden.

if I recall wtih your 24 volt system you really should have 2 identical and same age batteries regardless of type
