Will this bolt up??

I have a set of fj40 1979 axles and a 3 speed transfercase. Have the chance to purchase a set of 1982 drivlines, will they bolt up? Also they want $85.00 each are they worth it?

Hi All:

On the surface, I'd say no . . . . the bolt pattern of the pinion flange on late model 40 Series axles is larger than the bolt pattern on a "three-speed" t-case output shaft flange.

So, those '82 'shafts may bolt-up to the pinion flanges, but not to the three-speed t-case. Are they worth $85 each . . . . I doubt it.

You can get a later model parking brake drum and front output flange for the early case.

The driveshafts are worth it ..........IF.............they are the exact right length for your needs.

If you still have the driveshafts for your 3spd case you can easily trade ends, meaning pull them apart and use the 3 spd male end on your tc and the later d shaft on your pinion flange. If length is an issue have them re cut at a driveline shop.

Thanks for the replies. These drivelines would have to be modofied to work on my application. I have a 350 turbo automatic transmission, so it will need lengthened and a long slip joint installed to clear transmission. My question is would it be cheaper to just by new custom built drivelines for my application?
