Will an Early Pig Tailgate fit a '78

I did some searching and found info on doors being compatible or not but no definited answers on the tailgates. I know the body lines on '78/'79 are different but if it will bolt up, seal and work properly I can live with the differences in the appearance. If anyone has gone down this road and can provide some firm feedback I'd appreciate it. I have a deal pending and a possible free tailgate but if it won't fit then free does no good.

I'd also be interested to know if anyone has a decent '78/'79 tailgate they'd swop for clean rust free earlier model. It's another option.

Howdy! The two models of tailgate MIGHT fit together on the inside, but it would be WAY different on the outside, especially the area between the tail lights on the older models. If you can get the wrong one for free, then I would hold onto it for future value. There are plenty of older Piggies getting parted out. Keep looking. By the way, what happened to the second Pig you told me about at the CSC meeting?? John

Hey John. Still working on it. Maybe the first week of the year. I checked it out Saturday. Better in some area and worse in other, than expected. It was better when I thought I can a replacement tailgate. I'll keep you posted.
