Will a Warn xd9000i be a nice winch for a 92 fj80?

I need help. I want a winch 8000 lbs, seen little but nice price, a 12.000 lbs seens perfect but expensiveee...so do you guys think a warm 9000 will be ok ???

Tks.

Yup. get a snatch block just to be sure.

I agree with Bob. The FZJ80 weighs around 5000 lbs with a full load of liquids and with cargo and 4-5 adults will go close to 6000 lbs. so you have the 1.5X multiplier that most "experts" recommend.

I'd consider that a minimum so the snatch block is a must have to give you some additional oomph! You probably will want to avoid extended heavy pulls because with a heavier vehicle you'll be running the winch closer to peak load.

On the other hand, you can do a lot of expensive damage if you aren't careful using a 12000 lb winch. Lookout if you hook a snatch block to a 12k reel and take shortcuts with your anchor, angles or attachment points!

I've bought 4 winches, and the first two of those purchases resulted in buyer's remorse because I "got a deal" and it turned out I really needed the stronger but more expensive winch. Just something to keep in mind, avoid the siren song of a sale unless the winch that you really want happens to be on sale.

I use a 9500 on my heavy loaded down 60 and it did great the one time i have had to use it.

12K winches tend to be slower and thicker cable and less cable than a 8000 pounder like the venerable 8274...good for a slow pull but you will tend to run over the cable more with a big slow winch.

They are also mighty heavy.

a 1200lb winch would be perfect for an 80!

hay look at that I've got one for sale!

I whould agree the 12000lber is heavy! very heavy!

With a synthetic winch line a Warn M12k is about the same weight (maybe lighter) than the XD9000i with wire rope (I have both).

I have a warn M12000 I don't know how much its worth. I was going to use it on my 40 with synthetic rope.
I've gone throw the planitary and cleaned and greased it and gave it a coat of paint. here is a pic of it when I first pulled it off my F250.
