Wondering if a 5 bearing cam 3B block mates up to my stock config H55F and bell housing on my 1983 BJ42? I heard that these 5 bearing blocks came with aluminum bell housings and not sure if my 3 bearing being a 1983 has an aluminum bell housing and if any other difference?

Thanks
Rob

I was under the impression that the bellhousing bolt pattern was the same despite the aluminum/cast differences. I could be wrong, but I thought I read it on here awhile back. I just did a quick search, but I couldn't find the thread I was thinking about. Hopefully, someone that knows more will post up.

Will know soon enough I guess. Wonder why the change to aluminum besides weight if weight at all?

I was able to mate the aluminum bellhousing from a 5 bearing 3B to my 3 bearing 3B (cast bellhousing). The starters are clocked differently (70 series to 40 series), you just have to make sure you use the correct flex plate. If you go from cast to aluminum then you should also use the brackets from the bellhousing to the motor. Clutch slave cylinders are also different.

Has your old 3B become terminally ill Rob?

No, just want to tinker on something and try rebuild myself and then may swap in for I having a lot of oil leaks now and losing oil so not sure but gonna have something on stand by if so.
