60 series had 15 inch rims. Wont clear the bark calipers on the front. Will go on the rear.

I have a set of 15s and they fit my 80. They were on It when I got it. I have since moved on to 17s though
Your 1991 fj80...w/ OEM 15" rims and rear drums.
OP is talking about a 1997 fzj80 that comes from the factory with 16's
Need to grind the rear caliper brackets to fit 15" steelies. Fronts go on no problems

Hmmm odd one this, after 92 ish all the european LC 80s (and I assume every other market) got the bigger brakes which needed bigger rims to clear, many options here:
You do not have a 94
Your 94 has the wrong axles (well at least the front)
You have a 'one off' that escaped the later axles
Your memory is (like mine)...failing.

I have an odd ball 94 without ABS and a SF rearend and I had 15's on it for a while
The clearances were very tight
It is all about wheel back spacing
I believe the 15's I had were like 2.5 to 3 inches of backspacing, if they had anymore backspacing they would not have fit.

That is an odd one, no ABS AND SF! Are you talking about spacing the rims with spacers or are you referring to offset?
If the correct offset is correct as per Toyota spec then they will not fit the front axle.
I have seen plenty of post 92s with the EARLIER front axle, this seems to happen when the front diff lock is used at the wrong time and something gets broken, the clue is the diff lock wiring hanging uselessly from the loom. Non locked axles are a third of the price of locked ones.

No spacers, talking about actual wheel backspacing, factory is I believe 4.5 inches
My truck came from the factory with what it has on it now, no axles have been replaced and locker wiring is not present.
There are a few folks on here that have the same type of odd ball 94's and such

Weird, have any of you checked out your chassis plates to see if there is a commom denominator? It would be interesting to see if there was a special 'batch' or a similar production date/run date ect.

Weird, no. Uncommon, yes. Kidglove is one of the lucky people that owns that combination.
I have a 91 US spec 80 with 94 axles. The axles came with the standard 16" rims. I have 15" JDM rims and 1" spacers to clear the rear calipers. No rubbing with 1/2" clearance. My rims are 15x8 with -0 offset.
I also met a guy in Oregon and Hawaii with the same combo as Kidglove

OK, I have never witnessed it as 'stock' from the factory here in europe. Interesting though I would still like to see the info from various chassis plates to see if there is any pattern to this model, perhaps MOT?

For the record its the REAR brakes on the full floaters that need the 16" rims.
My 7x15" steelies from my 84 pickup fit just fine over the front brakes of my 97. In the rear I needed to slightly clearance the caliper bracket.

It was a 94 with e-lockers front and rear. The clearance was very tight but they fit.
