Hey guys, so I think I'm finally going to lift the LC this summer, and I'm back to thinking about tires. I really want to go with the new BFG KO2's, but they don't make them in the size I want, which is 295/65/18...I'd like to stay with the stock wheel. They do make them in a 305/65/18, but I'm thinking that may be too wide for the stock wheel. Does anyone have any idea if the 305's will work? I didn't see any one with 305s listed in the tire and wheel chart. Thanks.

Another size I haven't seen anyone run is a 295/70/18. I've seen them on a few 100's and they look good...anyone have them on a 200?

Okay, didn't think anyone would chime in...just thought I'd test the waters. I might give it a try anyway. The stock wheel is 8" right?

305's will work on the factory 8 inch wheel as far as running a 12 inch wide tire on an 8 inch wheel. But your problem area will be on the UCA, 305's will rub all up on that forsure!(unless your running a spacer or something)

I'm running 305/65 Falken wildpeak tires on stock tundra wheels. (on a tundra) with 3" lift and SPC upper control arms. I had to run spacers on the front to clear the UCAs.

I have 295/65/18's which are the same width (11.6") and about 1" shorter than the 295/70/18s. You will have massive rubbing on the front sides of the UCA's when you turn if you do not run aftermarket UCA's.

The 305/65 will be even worse being 33 1/2" tall and 12" wide. You could run a 1.5" spacer to get it off the UCA's but thats about the only way. Even with a lift, they will hit the UCA's with the stock wheel offset.

Thanks for the input guys. I'd really like to run 295's, but I want the BFG KO2's, and they don't make 'em in 295's yet...but they do come in 305's. TexAZ, would you mind posting a picture of your setup?
Dumb question, but what would the downside of running aftermarket UCA's? I've has spacers before on other trucks, and they worked out fine, but if aftermarket UCA's would be better, I'd probably do that.

I run both spacers and aftermarket UCAs on my 4Runner. I went with SPC Light Racing UCAs in the past. They're less expensive than other brands but in my experience that's partially due to no apparent R&D. They're customer service was great and they'd send out updated/newly designed replacements right away, but I felt like I was always needing to fix or perform preventative maintenance on them. So I went with ICON UCA & LCAs and have been much happier, but they require more maintenance than OE (the flip side is they're greases or and rebuild able) so if you don't want to think about your UCAs much and a spacer will keep from rubbing and keep your alignment within spec, I'd go with a spacer.

Okay, so dumb question...I guess I'm just second guessing myself. When it comes to rubbing, is more because of the height of the tire, or the width? They also make a 295/70/18, which is a 34" tire, while the 305/65/18 is a 33, but wider. In your opinions, which would likely be the one to rub more? I'm thinking maybe the 295 with a spacer might be my best bet. I could always go with the 295/65, but only Goodyear makes that size, and I didn't love those when I had them on before, so I'm thinking maybe the Nitto 295/70/18.

The width is only an issue for the most part on the UCA. A skinnier tire wont make contact in most cases.

The height is an issue as it fills the well more and you get rubbing on the front and rear mudflaps, inner fender guard and KDSS bracket when you go over 33"

On a stock suspension, the 295/70 will rub more. The 305/65 will likely only rub at full lock on the UCA, however you will probably have to unbolt the little front splash guard and maybe trim

Thanks Archtaan, I'll be getting a 2" lift first, so maybe the 305's are the way to go since I want the BFG's. How does yours with the 295's look in person? I'm guessing the 305's won't look too wide or cause any issues on the stock rim.

Well, considering I sold mine to him, I can tell you they look really really good. Good height, and pretty wide too.

ok....complete forum newb...accidently posted pic in 200 series photo album. trying to move it to this post.
I found a set of near new Falken wildpeak 305/65 tires on Craigslist. wasn't the exact size i was looking for, but a deal i couldnt pass up.
I had installed the lift (on a tundra) and it looked silly with the stockers under it. I went with 3/1 levelling kit and SPC upper control arms, again from craigslist, off a guy that went to 6" lift. The tire shop couldnt get the wheels on the spindles with the tires mounted, so i had to roll stockers until i could get spacers off ebay. The ones I found were 32mm. I dont plan on off-roading my truck ( I have a Scout for that) so I wasnt as concerned about running the spacers. With 380 hp. on tap, I do drive it like a sports car and haven't seen any adverse affects of using the spacers. hope the info helps...now how to get that photo were it needs to be..... 068.webp
On the Tundra, with the spacer and stock wheels. the tire well clears the UCA, and only rubs in reverse full lock to the side.
