So I just got my FJ62 back from the body shop and she looks really good...pix to follow. I mean, just awesome!
But knowing her the way I do, I immediately noticed two minor things. One to do with the antenna....no biggie, I'll just get a new one.
But the other is the wiggly stick. It wiggles side to side(Left to right that is), and it never did that before. So I unscrewed the cover and didn't find much, except a part of a broken washer....rubber or plastic I guess. Everything works fine, but I know it didn't wiggle like that before.
You guys know how it goes...you give her to someone to work on, they fix stuff, but then you can tell they've fooled with or broken other things.

Anyway guys, any hints about what this is or how to fix it?

Thanks guys.

Toyota sells the blue rubber/plastic bushing for less than $5. Repair took me about 15 minutes.

Read a post about a fix, believe it was in the faq section. Very common.

This^
I did it on a 62 I had, it was cheap and made alot of difference
in how firm the shifter felt.

I found the blue plastic bushing pieces dry rotted under the
shifter at 256k

Thanks guys. Feel a little dumb for not doing a search, but who would've thought this was covered.
This site is such a valuable resource for these trucks!

Hows the rest of it coming Nick? Long time no thread lol.

Hambone...

Bushings ordered from local Toyota dealership. $1.75 each....no kidding.

Hambone: Trucks been gone for 6 months, just got it back...autobody shop did it on the side when he had time. Beautiful job. Pix to follow when I get time to wash it and take them.
I found really nice AZ quarters in New Hampshire, drove 3 1/2 hours each way to buy them, and then got them installed. Truck looks awesome now. Almost new.

Just prior to that I had a new custom 2-1 single CAT 3 inch exhaust put in with a Magnaflow. I had only driven it from that shop to the autobody shop, so I hadn't really experienced that either. Again, runs great and sounds great. Not too loud or muscle car sounding.

Just ordered some new chrome rear bumper bolts to finish it off, and some new acorn style lug nuts to dress it up a little more.

The TPS is still disconnected and the truck runs fine. I hesitate to hook it up again and try to calibrate it but I guess that's next, after renting the rug machine to clean up the seats, reinstalling the interior, and putting in some new rear speakers.

She's almost ready for the unveiling!

There's always my copper bushing mod :D

Sent from my Motorola DynaTAC 8000x

Why do all these "15 minute" jobs take me and hour and a half? I must be an idiot.

Anyway, it's done.

Since I got my 62 a month or so ago, this sentence sums up my experience.

The parts will be here tomorrow... I found my 15~90 minutes DIY job for this weekend!

Done, it took me around 25 minutes to do it, nobody told me that the linkage will fall through the floor:rolleyes:! It could have been 15 minutes, but now I know!

BTW, now the shifter doesn't wiggle anymore!

Oh right...watch out for the linkage falling through the floor!
LOL! I forgot to mention that part!

This is funny... I had the same issue, read about buying the bushings from Toyota when I was installing my Rodney A440F.... but I just clipped off a bunch of zip tie strips and shoved them in there.

It may be ghetto, and probably won't last that long, but after spending 5k on my tranny project I didn't care if those bushings were .03 cents, i wasn't spending it.

Now that this post came up, I will probably go spend the 5 bucks and do it right :)
