last weekend i did the seafoam treatment, at night, so i would not bother the 'hood.
anyway...seems i forgot to actually run the engine while i put it in the carb, i just poured in the amount.
when i went to start it about an hour later, there was no smoke from the back end, but plenty from under the hood!
can you say doofus?
seems like alot of the seafoam leaked out around somewhere near the carb.
so i did the proccess again, right this time, but for a few days afterward, i got smoke from the residual leaked liquid.
a few days go by, and now its back again. it is NOT leaky fual, its the same smell as the burning seafoam from last week. i've driven about 200 miles since, you would think that it all burned off by now, or at least would not be on-off like it is.
could i have damaged a gasket, letting the sseafoam just pour down the carb body?
maybe it disolved some of the oil and gunk, and THATS whats burnig?
kinda scary, and it is most definately coming from around the carb base.
im going to check the PITA carb bols tommorrow, maybe they are loose. i've got good vacuum, and no idle problems, so a leak seems unlikely...
im stumped....
help anyone?

Mine smoked like crazy for a couple of minutes then cleared up. Seemed to run better after the treatment. Not sure what going on w/ your truck. Not much help, but it should have stopped smoking after burning off...weird.

i might have found what the smoke was...
it didnt have a burning oil, gas, or chemical smell, more like a plastic/rubber smell.
i was tinkering today, and noticed a piec of black plastic, about the size of a finger nail on top of the manifold., then i notice that a big amount of my insulation under the hood is sagging. the plastic "rivets" that hold it up must/ did fall down, and that might be the burning smoke. that WOULD account for the smoke/no smoke at different times.
and the insulation IS melted in two areas.
do i need this crap hanging there?
does anyone have some extra connectors, or an idea of what size screw/washer i can re-attatch it with?

I think you could use a sheet metal screw and a fender washer, just drill a hole in one of the hood braces, and fasten'er up.

Or, for the OEM way, the plastic clips are available from a dealer, pretty cheap...really cheap I think.

still smokin'

still got the intermitant smoke issue. i can see it waft out from under the aircleaner assembly, above the dizzy. driving me nut, since it only happens every once in a while
no distinct smell, just a rubber/plastic/hot smell
i am stumped.

no one?
happens again today. wafting out frome the carb base.
leakiny fuel line? but i would smell gas, not this smell.
still stumped

One of the gaskets melting? How about some of that insulation material from the hood that melted and stuck to the manifold that hasn't burned off yet?

is there any oil leaks on the engine?

maybe start with a good clean of the engine. dry it off and run it for a bit.

so there is smoke coming out of the gasket areas??

Out your tail pipe?

it is possible the seafoam has freed up some crap in there. might take another dose to get it thru the engine.

I used seafoam on my diesel car and lots of smoke came out, plus I was doing an injection pruge, loads of carbon came out of the pump.

Sorry I don't have any more info for you......but this will bump it to the top.
