is this still a thing? how has been out there lately? heard to collapsed, heard its fine. just wondering. i feel like someone was talking about it with me the other day

This is from last Sunday on the south side. They say it’s about 3 feet deep and may be worse on the other side. It is still open but the ice needs to melt more.

I drove all the way through last November, most of the tunnel looked pretty solid with the exception of the south portal. Water was 2+ feet deep at the south end. Definitely a late summer or early fall endeavor, in the past I've driven in from the north end only to get stopped by ice right at the south portal and have to back all the way out.

We tried, but there was a broken down Ford about 3/4 the way so we had to back up. I want to get up there when I have some free time and explore that area some more. Looks like a lot of cool sights

I rode my moto through it last fall. Glad i did it but cant say i would do it again. Water was about 2-3 feet deep even then. There are a lot of old timbers and crap under the water. I could eaisly see slicing up a tire on somthing under the water. Just accept that risk and it would still be fun in the truck. But let the snow melt out for sure. Unleas you enjoy an adventure.

There are some other trails to explore north of the tunnel and south of helena. If it is dry i think some would be a fun "challenge" for new off road drivers or stock trucks. Maybe a "beginers" trip or for stock trucks? I have never driven them in my 80 but have explored some on my moto. I know the area a little but not well enough to "lead" a trip. Some of the trails still have some steepish loose stuff to keep it interesting. Its not just flat forest roads.

The road that drops into Ramani (sp?) Is short but rocky and narrow, easy but kind of fun. Anothe road near Clancy area heading south torwards the tunnels is kind of fun and leads to beautiful elevated open area.
