For the past 6 months, I have owned and driven a 2017 200-Series Land Cruiser here in North Carolina, USA. This thing is an absolute monster. I mean, solid as a rock. Just like that song. I continue to discover little design gems here and there that consistently remind me that this machine is truly as no-nonsense and rugged as the legends claim. I mean, if this thing is built to climb rocks, it should last forever on these nice smooth American roads. Only concern I really have is rust. Here in North Carolina it's generally very humid and my garage is not conditioned. But boy, I can tell, it will be hard to kill this truck. Just firing it up, that roar can be heard through the entire house. I mean everything, from the expansive aviation style air vent system to the heavy steering, it just oozes toughness. Like that old guy at the gym, who would knock your teeth out with one left. Anyway, these are my thoughts on this vehicle after 6 months of ownership. Curious what others love most of about their Land Cruisers. Great community here!

I have a wife and three kids, sometimes with friends, need to tow, need something insanely reliable that is off road ready, I couldn’t be happier.

It's about the only legit HD SUV on the market. With capability to tow heavy and do real off-road trails, with robustness and reliability to confidently go thousands of miles away from home, and know one can and will get back. Even after use in harsh towing/weather/off-road.

I recently drove up the steepest grade yet in the Tahoe Lake region - Kingsbury Pass. 11 miles of 6-8% grades, going up over 7,000 feet. Towing 7500lb worth of trailer. All tight single lane windy narrow mountain roads with almost no turnouts and cars breathing down your neck (well I did turnout on one but the car behind me couldn't summon enough snuff at altitude to actually pass).

Settled in at a campsite, unhitched. Then went off-roading to almost 9,000ft with family coddled in A/C and gentle ride comfort.

Because Land Cruiser. There's really nothing comparable.

Here's something that will help address your rust concerns. I've used Fluid Film in the past with good results (St. Louis winters). I plan to use CRC on my LC.

Fluid film is your friend
But now they have wool wax which is supposed to be more durable
I just applied a fresh coat of wool wax last week

I believe they are a supporting vendor and you can get a discount using IH8MUD as a discount code

Here is a thread with some pictures of my 80 series that gets regular use in the snow and salt of Maine

To answer your question
It is the safest most capable most reliable truck you can buy in America
Everyone one I have ever had has been more reliable than any other vehicles I have owned
I can feel comfortable putting my wife and kids in one to drive through a blizzard

But I am biased

I like that it’s body on frame construction.

And coils. I like the coil springs.

And the V-8. Me likey.

And climate control because after all, we’re civilized here.

And that power tilt & telescope steering wheel. Yeesh! I like it.

:)

Re corrosion protection. I am huge fan of Corrosion Free (Non Toxic And No Drip Rust Proving | Corrosion FREE). I used Fluid Film before, and this is way better. It is highly refined mineral oil that really sticks to surfaces yet penetrates. And does NOT smell. Used it last year on both the Tacoma and Land Cruiser and it did not really get washed away, even on suspension components. Did touch up application this year, but it was hardly necessary.

I found it creep into areas I did not spray initially like way up on the inside of bed sides on the Tacoma.

I bought it because it was expensive as hell and i just want to feel better about myself and look down on others who have less.
