I bought my daughter a 78 Super beetle convert basket case. I have another 8 months to put it all together.

1980 K5 Blazer, new crate engine, manual trans, 12 bolt rear, D44 front, LockRites both ends, M/T wheels, Super Swamper tires, Staun's beadlocks
rolled, not destroyed but won't smog here in Cali
Buddy of mine gives it to me, sez if I keep it I can have it, if I sell it he wants half
Donor body:
it's a '73, got it in Tuscon, "rust-free" (mostly), fenders, doors and tailgate are junk, no hood, no engine/trans, no interior but a good top
Body swap:
sent the 73 frame & axles to the junkyard(too common--nobody wanted it--had to get rid of it)
as it is today, all new Certifit sheetmetal, already licensed with a NEW Clean Cali title as a '73(no smog test)
I'm outta money
outta ambition
but I can't start the 60 project until this one's gone

I'm in the same boat. I built a shop to finish my 40 and as soon as it was done my son pulled in his 90 vw corrado and started disassembling it. He doing a 1.8T swap and a passat syncro swap at the same time. My cruiser is sitting surrounded by a growing pile of vw parts and at the rate his build is going I don't think my 72 will see the shop for another year. I wish his was an air cooled. Bugs are great and easy to work on.

man, do a "other vehicle tech" write up on that! sounds pretty cool
basically he's making a modern Audi GT Quattro Coupe (Corrado even looks like a modern version of the GT). I would love to follow that build.
I always thought the Corrado looked great...once it was lowered and 18's on it.
The syncro is easy. Straight bolt on once you get the golf syncro rear brackets. Just need to fab up the one trans to engine mount, shorten the drive shaft and lose the gas tank. The 1.8t is the tough one. Going to run megasquirt and want megasquirt to run the coil packs. We rebuilt the 1.8t and he's looking for a big turbo, he's hoping for around 400 hp. His last Corrado was around 200 HP and that was scary to drive, the syncro should help.

Old thread.
Still not 100% done, but I haven't worked on it for months. My daughter just got her license, but it still far too cold to drive a convertible bug in Chicago.
Runs and drives well. Everything that needs to work, works. Still has some cosmetics to finish up.
