Why does the NAV/Climate/Stereo combo scare the crap out of me

I too had a plan to avoid nav in an 01 or 02.
Initially decided nav was a deal breaker until I found an 02 w/ nav. Even before USA spec warrantied for 02 I installed USA spec adapter and never looked back. Every car has something you don't care for and something that's not 100% reliable. The land cruiser has few of the former and even fewer of the later.
These are not German, afterall.

I have the Nakamichi system in my 2k lx470 the CD player has never worked since i bought it (most likely PO too) and even the dealer gave me money back because he could/would not fix it. I also noticed the AM reception was very poor; until I took off fender inner shield there was no antenna motor looks like someone took out the whole antenna motor less the bracket that holds it and diked off the electrical connector and left 6 inches of antenna sticking out duct taped to the inner fender. Not a deal breaker in my book; just a pain and expensive to make it OEM again. I understand the Pioneer unit is allot better unit and should fit in the same hole if you can find one. Right now I use sirus/xm and a ipod touch with the cassette adapter. so i get by.

Perhaps a noob question, but could you buy a whole OE replacement radio and climate control stack from Toyota and just replace it? I realize that's probably mega bucks, but is the wiring there, assuming you got one?

If it was that obvious/easy it would already be done wide spread...

There is a member here, RobRed, that has started a project to migrate to non-NAV. Time will tell the final costs, but its not cheap.

I figured it was either terribly costly or terribly difficult, or both... Fingers crossed that mine doesn't give up the ghost any time soon.

Thanks for the info.

If I can get the USA SPEC PA15-TOY to work on mine, I will be happy enough. I have tried to attach a pic of my dash. I would keep everything the same...mostly because I have to, as long as I can get good sound to come from my connected iphone or ipad.

Reviving this thread- I had bought a PA15-toy that worked for awhile , then at some point I had the dreaded NO DISK pop up. I never spent to much time trying to trouble shoot that.

A few weeks back I made it my mission to find some correct tint window glass. As luck would have it the yard I pulled it from had the bezel still with HVAC controls. For 75.00 I decided to give it a shot

Well Jason...all eyes are on you now! Good luck and keep this thread posted!

Almost purchase a GX470 with the "DVD screen" and by pure luck I found that the GPS was not updatable (version 13.1) and in my head I was just thinking "oh no big deal, I just install something newer"

No, not so fast the silly screen is connected to the Hvac and is no way to do anything about it

After four gen One iPads that we use as wedges for the doggies water table, no thanks never again.

Originally i was against buying a 100 with it, but on my roadtrip across the the country it was incredibly useful, especially out in the deserts where we had zero cell service but the GPS always had us.

I can still use all my music via a cassette tape adapter...so whatever, small inconvenience to pay
