Why can't I find this type of tool?

I have a 1/2" drive impact driver. I want to use it as a drill so I need a 1/2" female receiver on one end and the other end to accept a drill bit. I have searched every where with no luck. It occurred to me that they do not make this type of tool as an impact is not meant to stay on for a long time periods of time? Any ideas?

TIA

You answered your own question, its not a drill, its an impact wrench. Its designed to release at full torque. Not what you want for drilling.

Buy a drill.

You can't find drill bits for it because it's not a drill. The torque delivery from an impact wrench would break drill bits.

Haha well.... I have done this before. I deal with HDPE pipe alot at work and commonly have to drill 2-2/12" holes in it. I use a hole hawg bit and normal 1/2" electric drills can't Handel the strain. I took a 1/2" chuck from a drill and found the right size fine thread bolt that would thread into the back of it... ( make sure it is as short as possible) then take a socket of matching size and away you go. I ended up welding the bolt to the chuck cause the impact gun drove it thru the chuck the first time haha. It is wobbly, and akward to use but for my application worked great... You have to stop and check chuck tightness constantly and use lots of air tool oil if using it for prolonged periods. I used mine for almost 2 hours straight doing these holes and it lives to do it time and time again.

As already suggested, just buy an air drill, they are pretty cheap.

A drill bit exploding in your face does not sound like a lot of fun. More fun than a cut off disk, less fun than using the proper tool.

You can buy a surprisingly decent drill at HF for like $30. I got one of their cheapest ones and abused the :censored: out of it. Amazingly enough, a small drill doesn't like trying to mix motor for tile (low speed and high load = lot of heat and abuse). I mixed probably 4-5 bags before buying the correct drill (low speed high torque drill), and let out a lot of the "magic smoke" from the drill. It's still ticking along perfectly fine.

Long story short...buy the correct tool. If you can't afford to buy a drill, you shouldn't own a Cruiser.

Buy the correct tool to run a hole saw

Factory Reconditioned Milwaukee 1675-8 1-2-in Hole-Hawg Two-Speed Drill, 300-1,200 RPM

I have one of those that I inherited from my step father who was an electrical contractor, it's one of those lifetime investment tools. If you are using it at work don't waste time on anything from Harbor freight, the stuff they sell is at best hobby grade. (Don't get me wrong I buy a lot of stuff at HF, you just need to be selective about what you get from them.)

There is in fact such a tool but I agree with others about likelyhood of shattering a drill bit if used with an impact driver. Google Jacobs Chuck 64-J9. There's one on ebay now for $80 but I found mine there for much less a few years ago.

We get requests for all kinds of wierd adaptors. This one isn't that far off though you may destroy some drill bits. But they make impact rated hole cutters too.

Here is the adaptor to take your 1/2" drive down to a 1/4" or 5/16" hex drive (i have one for my cordless impact and it is awsome for driving screws.....awesome)

Then you could take a regular jacobs chuck adaptor in the smaller pic. I'd be worried about breaking that shank though....
