help please

I have a 1974 fj40 and want to put a front winch bumper on it. I am sure this has been talked about but the only one i found was arb (big bucks). Who else makes these. Thanks

who makes a front winch bumper I know arb. What brand would you guys recommend?

What kind of winch do you have? I used a Budbuilt plate that I cut to fit on the frame rails. Then I built my own bumper. If you have a Warn 8274 this wouldn't work.

Man-a-Fre and CCOT both have some.

I've been trying to find the same thing and stumbled on this post last night!

Not sure if he's back yet or not (hopefully he's back safe!) - but you might as well support the fellow Mudders!

Good luck - and let us know what you end up with!

I run a Hawkdriver bumper, he makes a real quality product. I would unreservedly run anything he makes. Anyone who knows anything about these rigs comes up to me and comments on the quality and workmanship.

Me too;)

make your own ...

i did. yes, you need a welder, and a bit of layout skills, but the results are very very afordable.

i spent less than $2000 for all of it, the winch included, the digital lights included, and the shackels as well. including the steel parts.

Even of i would have added a new welder, no more than $2500.

A friend of mine made this one for me, it is based on the HFS bumper...not sure what dimensions that bumper are, but I measured and drew it up and sent the sketch to a friend and he made it, I got it and did a bit of grinding and am getting ready to paint.

It is 3/16" steel 5" x 42 5/8" x 2" deep and the ends are capped. I then had the d-ring mounts added and the winch plate for an Warn 8274 bumper for my FJ40.

He is able to make a couple more if you are not in a huge hurry and cheaper than store bought. Let me know if you are interested in more information, just PM me.

Couple of pics.

I have the HFS one from CCOT.
It works, basically it bolted right up, and is a bargain at the price IMHO.
