Who has the meanest 100??

T Y L E R: I know you and your likes from the 80-forum. I believe you'd be a perfect candidate to build "my next 100". I say "my" because I've planned it for over a year based on 100-wheeling experience though it won't happen for some time.

The 100-series has a few downfalls when talking about hard-core wheeling.

1. It's simply too big and too long.
2. Weight doesn't help either.
3. Needs more articulation.
4. Front shocks too soft for ARB/winch bumper.

Outiftting a 100 like an 80 works against it off-road (like mine is outfitted). This is mainly because the added bumpers mean added length which means "more stuck". It's different on an 80 where you can go up 4-6" to compensate. Can't do that on a 100.

So, I addressed #3. I have 80 flex in the rear and that's helped tremendously overall.

Number 4 can be conquered by not loadiing the front up.

Number 2 can be helped by not loading the truck.

What needs to be done in order to really see 100's match (closely...you get my point) 80's is to SHORTEN the sucker. The front and back frames need cutting as much as is possible and SMALL steel bumpers need to be fabbed. Amando's 100 has been built along this idea (smaller bumpers, etc) though if he or someone were to cut the frames down and shorten the truck it would improve greatly again. And when you fab the bumpers forget about internal lights (no offence Amando), a smooth look, etc. Make them as SMALL as possible for added clearance.

This is my plan. This has worked on my 80's. They're over a foot shorter than the typical 80 and they can do things other 80's cannot. What we need is a 100 built like this too. It won't be the "bling" but it'll work amazingly well.

An ARB/Slee'd 100 is 5" longer than and ARB/Slee'd 80. My frame cut 80 is 18-inches shorter than my 100 and 13 inches shorter than an ARB/Slee'd 80. Imagine how that helps in the bad stuff.

You should do it! Look at the length difference. We need to get a 100 down-sized like my 80's:

Interesting .... something I would not have considered. ;p But I hear ya .. nasty Starbucks' curbs jumpin up and bitin my 100 would truly be a grievous assault :D

One thing I know about myself .. ok, a few things. I hate to do anything completely run of the mill .. and need to be at least a tad out of the box. Besides that I need comfort, cruising ability, looks .. omg looks .. :grinpimp: , and it has to be able to perform modestly at least at just about everything.

Oh, and if it doesn't sit heads and shoulders over a crummy H2, I'll be popping gavol all the time .. uggh

I'm never properly motivated, but I am always quite happy at the results.

The dream continues to be .. sell off the 80, and show up at Slee's with a bag of cash. Buy his 100 .. have him and his crack team build the s*** out of it, and drive back home again .. grinning from ear to ear.

Never say never!

If I can steer my fiancee away from an MDX and into a 100, or 470 maybe she'll let me build my own!! :bounce:

Peace John,

TY

Weird we are having the same dream :D

must say that the difference in approach angle in John's photo up there is rather stunning...

mmm... I could sticky a thread about highly modified 100s, but where to set the threshold eh...?

Now...imagine a cut 100....it'd be only about 5-inches longer than my 80. Somebody know photshop and can post?

Which brings you back to buying an 80 instead of going to all the trouble :)

Not quite Bull. I think you misunderstood. :)

Frame cutting and shortening BOTH series vehicles offers BIG benefits on the trail. It's not an 80 vs 100 issue.

I brought it up here because the questions is "which 100 is meanest".

In my opinion, the meanest 100 would be a shortened one (I have the same opinion regarding the 80-series). A loaded 100 or 80 is so big you're limited. A cut one is "meaner". :) It can take lines a loaded one cannot.

Like these:

Top: Loaded 80 with 4.5" lift.
Middle: Cut 80 with 3.5" lift.
You'll notice that the white/silver truck had to move way down the rock to a less-angles part. He's draggin hiss rear even at this angle. The bumpers hung it up and it couldn't climb. You'll see by the bottom angle that my 80's bumpers are even just clearing. A typical 80 has to move way to the right by the Jeep. The 100 even more. Look at where the 100 has to go! Plbbb! I want a cut one!

Of course, back to the original question, who has the meanest 100 (right now)? It's still Amando, without question. And he's taken his truck where no other 100 owner has dared to go. (Toyota USA does not count as an "owner" in my book.)

Yeah he designed everything to work on the trail, enjoys the truck as it was meant to be used and has the best mod of all-

hint:it connects to his battery at camp!:grinpimp:

oh yeah that one was awesome bull! I love that Slee LX470
