I got the one for my 40 for alot less than $100. But it wasn't from a Land Cruiser only place - can't recall off the top of my head - but search - you'll find cheaper.

Edit - found these two places for $40. I didn't buy from either cause I already had the spindle and just needed the hub part and the place I bought it from sold it seperately. Can't find their web site though - probably have it bookmarked on my other computer as they had lots of fab parts.

I pulled together a tire carrier similar to what Capt. did a few months ago. Used the Slee Spindle. Great for those who dont do hardcore rock crawling but want to get some extra clearance. Here is a link to my post on the build: https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=52917&highlight=pics+tire+carrier

Zane,

I think we even used the same latch to secure our carriers. Mine came with a red handle but I dipped it black tool coating.. Think I got it at Grainger. Nice job. It was fun getting the mount to fit under that plastic end cover, huh?

Jim,

Yes.... Measure, measure, measure then cut then grind. Making sure you get the placement of the spindle correct is the hardest part of the whole job. To be honest a lot of it is eye balling it with a little math... Ha...

Ya', that was already mentioned. But paying $100 vs. $40 is quite a step for most people.

There is also a big difference between a 1" sprindle that will bend and 1.75" that does not :D Hub is also bigger.

True, the 1.75" spindle with bearing kit is about $40. But if you dont have acess to a good metal lathe with a sturdy boring bar and the skills to use it to make the hub, your better off just buying one ready to go. A machine shop will charge big bucks to make just one.

here is first front bumper
