I am looking to take out my nasty carpet and roll on some bedliner. I know people have done this. I am trying to decide how to go about doing this. I want it to look good, but I am afraid that it will look wierd with the door panels and such. So if you have done this could you post some pictures?

Thanks

I have carpet and mats.

:flipoff2:

Thanks a lot.:flipoff2::flipoff2:

i have some sort of liner in mine the PO put into it
its a weird green color and my truck is blue,
my buds tell me it looks good, i'm sure black
would look alot better
the only draw back is the heat that comes in from
the transmission and motor, it gets pretty hot in there!

D

I think it would look fine with the door panels. If the heat is too bad you could always put damplifier and carpet in the front and over the tranny. Should insulate from the heat. Do you need a spray out interior?

I pulled up the carpet and pad and replaced it with T&G White Oak, I was going to use Teak but they were all out at Home Dumpot.:D

Seriously, I think your idea is great and it never occured to me. Nt twenty year old dog hair, flea and mouse infested carpeting and padding despertely needs to be replaced. Bed liner is a great idea for durability. mud, etc.

Thanks for posting!

No I dont need to be able to hose out the interior. I just dont like the nasty carpet. I got the idea form all the J**P people that line the interiors of the tubs. I am still looking for some pictures...

I heard it is louder, and hotter in there with it bed lined.

That being said I am going line my floor with tan truck bed liner for a few reasons.

a) I dont have a roof
b)I am always in the sand and at the beach so it will be hard to tell if its dirty
c) wet carpet sucks

I am sure the carpet and pad insulate the interior from noise and exhaust heat. It ought to be possible to put that foam abcked with aluminum down and then bedliner on top of that. the carpet jsut sucks from a hygiene point of view- dogs, dead wildlife, mice, fleas, oil stains, blood stains.

I haven't had the carpet for years - too many leaks and I couldn't get rid of the dog and mold smells.

That said, it does get REALLY hot around your feet if there isn't anything there. I've thought about spending the money to get Rhino/Line-X/etc sprayed in but have decided to sell this 60 when I get it running fully again. If my other, much nicer, 60 ever needs to have the carpet removed, I'll look into it again.

I don't know what it's called, but the insul-board they use on the sides of houses, especially the new "green" material-built homes..I'd get some of that, put it in around the cat and exhaust/toe board areas, gluing or screwing in into place. Then, shoot in some Rhino, Line-x, Proline, or whatever you'd like. I think it's mildly bendable, too for irregular surfaces. My 2 pennies. HTH

There was a thread going where someone had some diamond plated looking black rubber mat in their 60 that was bought from SOR. That looked real sharp and clean!

That was me. Tuff Tread mats. Love 'em. Still loud though...

That post:
The vinyl diamondplate patterned floor mats (Tuff Tread Floor Liner) from SOR is great. It comes in four pieces (cargo, rear seat back, rear floor, front floor). Full set costs $300, worth every penny and is nice and thick. Item #s: 345-600 (cargo), 345-610 (rear seat back), 345-611 (front and passenger floor). Comes in gray or black.

A few words of caution: They come pre-marked for trimming. Put them down and THEN trim, I trimmed first and took a little bit too much off. Also, ignore the markings for trimming a hole for the shifter and t-case shifter, you'll need to take your time and do it precisely if you wish to have a good outcome.

Also, these will not provide the same sound dampening that the carpeting and carpet padding does, so consider installing a soundproofing layer, but know that it will make puncturing the Tuff Tread more likely.

9bbound, you seem to really like them. I'd follow the advice of the others, don't buy them from SOR, you can get enough of that stuff to cover three vehicles for $300. Search "tuff tread floor liner" and it will bring up that thread and you can pull the links.

i've herculined an interior before. I've even herculined a floor and mixed the heat reflective ceramic micropellets into it. it still gets really hot in the cab. so hot i had melted my shoes and a credit card that fell on the floor after a long ride once. it is still alot more noisey. Herculiner gets dirty quick, and alot of times mud is really difficult to get out of it. if you're looking for a more quiet , refined ride, pony up for new carpet, or put sound deadening material under whatever you roll/spray. Another option is to use some marine grade carpet, it wont trap as much water, it comes clean alot easier, and should still supply a fair amount of insulation.

Pulled out my rear carpet about 6mo. ago after having gear oil leak out of a bin in the back.

Considered Rhino Liner. The application in FJ40's has been done a lot and works well IMO. In the 60? Alot of stuff to get out of the way for a clean application... and I would prefer to close the gap between the rear seat back and the rear bed.

SOR vinyl diamond plate looks pretty good, but thought I'd look around at what other materials are available.

A product from B&F Plastics Inc. looks promising... either heavy duty recycled tires in mat form (TirePlast), or can be had in HD indoor/outdoor carpet application. Would have to trim to suit, but the carpet is a pretty good starting template.

Anyone used this stuff before?

I just put Dynamat Exteme in my entire roof and side pillers, the difference is truely amaizing. I was just gonna have the floor lined, then put a layer of insulation and the rubber mats back over top.

My question is: If someone were to put the Dynamat on the floor and THEN spray the liner OVER it would there be adhesion problems???

The stuff I put down sticks like crazy, but I would be worried about it possibly comming up at some point, then it would be a real mess. It would be nice if we could fine a best of all worlds- would adhesion to the aluminium backing of Dynamat be a issue?

Not trying to hyjack, just find a solution.

Not sure why anyone would use bedlner on the inside of a vehicle. It would be impossible to keep clean, noisy as all hell and hotter than hades. Why not just go with vinyl rather than carpet? a far better solution in every facet.
