Just curious, who the typical 80 driver is. Coming from the Jeep world there are stereotypes for every different model and vintage. Everything ranging from redneck hillbillys in their booty-fabbed CJs to the outdoor enthusiast executives who mod and wheel their Grand Cherokees to the high school kids with their XJs and tight budgets.

So I'm curious, how old are you, what do you do for a living, where do you live, and why do you drive an 80?

I'll start:

I drive an 80 because my XJ got too wild to DD and was too beat to be respectable. I wanted a rig with class, style, capability and durability and I think I made a good choice.

Edit: I know this isn't "Tech" but it pertains specifically to 80s....

this will be moved to chat because it is less technical than discussing where to get clear directional lamps --

I have loved 80s since 1993 when I test drove a new one at a dealer -- though I thought even back then, "God, this thing's sluggish" -- now I like sluggish --

Have always owned and been infatuated with off-road vehicles - knew I would have an 80 someday when I saw a picture of it on the back of a National Geographic in '90 ("Most sought after vehicle in Africa" ad).

I bought the 80 'cause the engine seized in the 60 and it had lots of rust. I bought the 60 'cause I rolled (backwards end over end @60MPH) my 40. I bought the 40 'cause I got my liscense and my brother wanted to sell it.

E, you say old fart like it's a bad thing, but compared to these wipper snappers I feel like an old fart too. Yuck.

I've always wanted a Land Cruiser, bought an FZJ80 and then a 60 on the same lot (impluse buy). Haven't looked back since. Now I'm looking for a nice FJ55 (The sweetest looking cruiser ever.).

I have always wanted a Land Cruiser-- my first was a 74 FJ40. I was going to purchase a LX450 in 2000 with 23k on the clock--but I listened to my buddies and ended up purhasing a 2000 5spd 4Runner--great truck--amazing offroad. The thing is I am six four and always wanted a 80--so I just sold the 4Runner and got a locked 80 :) Part of the reason is I want something bigger is for protection down here in local traffic....

One thing that sucks is I live in Mazatlan Mexico so I have to pay cash for my trucks---the Land Cruiser just started selling here--a new one goes for about $70k U.S.---I want to get my wife a 2000 100 grocery mobile. I own a hardware store/industrial supply--put in about 76 hours a week.... I'm 28 and ready to retire!

Going on 26 and in the Aviation Industry. Bought the 80 or the girl when her car died last year. Bought the 60 shortly after that when it was clear she wasnt going to let me play with the 80!

Drive an 80 because it is a very well built vehicle has the right mix of on-and-off road ability for my needs, have plans for my 80 to make it more capable for camping/exploring type use but not the budget to do much, looking at another round of pay cuts and layoff’s does not help

I need to change my demographic :)

Bought the LC to replace a Miata when I could no longer put the two kids in one seat side by side in the Miata(only for one mile from day care to home). Sis in law had a LC and I'd fallen in love with it. Did a fair amount of skiing and didn't think there was anything better out there than the LC. I still believe that!
