New to this side of the site, usually on the 100 side of things. But we picked up a 2007 GX 470 in Atlanta to replace the rusty FJ62 that was previously the wife's truck. Bought the GX in Atlanta and drove it back to CA. Much nicer road trip vehicle than the 62.

Previous owner keep the truck in great condition and had made a couple of upgrades already. Ironman Foam Cell lift with heavy rear springs. SPC Upper Control Arms, and an interesting light bar from a now defunct company called Defiant Truck Parts which holds 4 PIAA lights. Additional reverse lights mounted to hitch frame. Toyota 18" wheels with 275/65/R18 Firestone road tires.

It was a very long day but made it to Las Cruces in one day. I didn't take pictures but what was craziest was the number of broken down cars on the side of the road. It was at least one every ten miles except when driving through Dallas / Fort Worth. Also an incredible difference between the GX with a vvti engine and the '99 LX470 which is weighed down by bumpers, fridge, RTT, etc. This thing is a sports car!!

Not all shown here but we did go to four National Monuments.

White Sands was truly unique. Went out in the morning but by about 9:30 is was already scorching hot.

After visiting Organ Mountains we drove across town to Prehistoric Trackways. No Dinosaur tracks at all, they've all been stolen or moved to a museum so we drove a bit off road instead.

Crossing another border.

Fourth National Monument in 1 day! Caught the sunset here before continuing up to Phoenix.

One last boarder crossing, again over a river

Road trip art. How do you think it compares to Jackson Pollock?

A few months after owning the truck the CEL came on. Took it to the dealer and they read code P1445 which in their words is:
P1445-SECONDARY AIR INJECTION SYSTEM SWITCHING VALVE #2 STUCK CLOSED.)

Quote to fix this was $2,350. Ouch. I began looking for other options. Found here on Mud a number of threads about the Hewitt-Tech SAIS bypass. Fortunately we were planning to move out of California and into Utah. This $260 option would work. Already moving out of CA was saving us money.

Ordered the part, followed supplied instructions and others pictures here on MUD: 2005+ Emission/Air Pump Failure?

Overall fairly easy job. Toughest part is installing the block off plates but my XXL sized hands managed.

Purple Starter Relay

Module harness plugged into MAF sensor
1932724

Wrapped it around the relay as instructions show.
1932737

Relay back in place with bypass wire attached. Picture here shows purple wire very loose. This was done as a mock up and tested. Then I pulled the relay, routed the wire by the firewall, cut to length and reinstalled on relay.

Where I routed the wire behind the plastic guard. zip tied in place.

In February, took our son (Holden) home in a snow storm. First time in a car and its in the Land Cruiser Family. but....

By four weeks old needed to show him all the other great Land Cruisers there are. Only a visit to the Land Cruiser Heritage Museum would do. That's us behind the wheel of a Mega Cruiser! He can't reach the pedals yet but one can dream.

The PO of this GX bought some Toyota 18" rims shortly after purchase. He did keep the original GX 17" rims, which came with the purchase of the truck.

I took the original wheels down to Full Blown Coatings to make them black, ordered some Falken Wildpeak AT3 LT265/70/R17. I like the look of the black wheels and the true AT tires look better too.

Seen here with Toyota 18" and Firestone Destination P275/65/R18

Replaced with Falken Wildpeak AT3 LT265/70/R17. Not shown in these photos but also had the Lexus center caps powder coated in the same black.
