Well I like map books, and yes they don't need batteries except to read them at night, but dammit, they're never accurate and no two are alike. On that last trip July 1, one of my books only showed one road to Chataway Lake, and even had the road name wrong. The other book showed several roads without names or distances. But on the other hand, the GPS sometimes does not show decent large maps either, ie. last year at Poison Mtn. and north of Goldbridge, so I guess these contraptions are only as accurate as the info programed into it, which could be old outdated data. Sigh...., oh well, I'm lost most of the time anyway, just got to learn to enjoy it. At least I never have to worry about going to work the next day!

P.S. Re: "keep taking rights, until you take a left." Well, I can never remember whether we TURN RIGHT HERE LEFT, or is it TURN LEFT, RIGHT HERE? ;0)

Layne & Jake

Jake & I are catched the 4pm ferry from Victoria on Friday and will be making our way out of Vancouver around 6ish. Anyone heading out around the same time?

Hey Layne. Talk to Steve. I think he and Dan are heading out friday after work. I don't know how often he looks at this post, so you better phone him.

P.S. I'm bringing some first aid gear for you.

Hey guys I am a local 450 owner that has been lurking ;) I am not at all able to go wheeling until september but thought I would ask what kind of difficulty level the whipsaw is ? Is it a winch-requiring sort of trail ? should a 2.5" lifted lx 450 with 33's be able to do it ?

thanks!

I havent done the full trail for a couple of years now, but I have done it a couple times in the past with essentially a stock fj45. I had 33" tires, but no lockers or winch. The only winching was granite grinders fj40, but thats another story :)

When do we get the full review ? Hope everyone was OK with that quad. Looks potentially nasty.

The quad wasn't ours, Bill will post more on that.

As far as the Whipsaw goes, it is a trail that should never be attempted unless there are two vehicles (or more). Winch is not mandatory but a good idea. Trail can change within hours. The Carnage club was there and ripped up a section of trail that made it quite hard for stockish vehicles to get through. There are a couple of sections that are a little tough, but most trucks can make it through with a little effort.
