I'm planing on leaving Vancouver about 9:00 am Friday. I will be going up Whipsaw Creek, not Coalmont. Mat was hoping to go then also, work permitting. We could all meet somewhere, like, how about Ricky's Restaurant where you take 200 th St exit? Possibly Marcin & Ania if they are not working Friday.

Just let me know where you want to meet and what time, keeping in mind I'm a contractor so anything before 8am is too early

Thinking ahead
So Bill is going up the trail just after Eastgate.
Who else is going that way?
Bill, are you planning on stopping somewhere Friday night or going through to Loadstone?
If the start time is 9am from Vancouver, stop for breakfast at Ricky's, then go. That will put you at the trail head around 1:30-2pm. The full trail is between 4 and 6 hours. That would drop you at Loadstone around 8pm.
The reason I'm asking is that we should have at least a couple of people at Loadstone on Friday. Other groups will show then. Every year it's the same, vehicles drive in, see people and drive out (then camp on the other side). If we want to "hold" the lake, we need to be there first.
So, if everybody wants to go through the full trail, directly to Loadstone (not camping at Wells). I suggest an earlier start. Wah to Matt
. If not then I'll probably go through Coalmont. Besides, Wells is way to mosquito infested for me.
Traci, I'm guessing you don't want to take the dog through the trail.

I'm for meeting at Ricky's Restaurant at 200 th St in Langley at 9:00 am Friday morning. However, I don't want to go straight from Whipsaw all the way to Lodestone on Friday. I'd rather camp at Wells Lake or somewhere else like that, and then on to Lodestone on Saturday. I think that there is so much to see that its pushing it too much to just motor on through. I really like taking my time up there in the Skagit Wilderness and not rushing by in a hurry. I hope Mat will come with his GPS so that I don't get lost. I can pull him up Falcon Hill!

However, your Cruiser front bumper is a beaut!
P.P.S. Craig -- gets some Deep Woods Off 90% Deet, and eat lots of garlic, then the mosquitoes won't bother you. Or get one of those big body nets from 3 Vets like Drew has!

Bill, you've got to remember, I've done the traila bout 10 times and I've been to Wells 15+ times. Four years ago when my friend and I got there, the mosquitos were so bad that it cut down "good" visability to about four feet. The swarms about six feet wide and they follow you everywhere. Garlic may be good, but mosquitos and ticks are attracked to the CO2 that you exhale. Unless you have a way to stop this..... Of course it changes from year to year.
Like I said, we have to have someone at Loadstone on Friday. If we show up on Saturday, there is a very good chance we won't be able to camp there.
So, good luck with Wells. I'll wait and see what Traci is going to do.
If there are people wanting to take the trail, but push strait through to Loadstone, let me know and I'll find out if Traci is up for it.
P.S. Just to give you a timeline, Steve left his house, went to the trail, ran the entire trail, came out at Coalmont and made it home in one day.

Again, I am in for going early and reserving the camping spot. It would be great to stay in one area for two nights and explore with out having have to pack the camp up.
Bill i just got a bluetooth gps, the size of match box, for $115, that turns my cell phone into a navigation system. Get one of those and you will not get lost.

Alright, alright, I can do early mornings, I just chose not to. Whatever time you guys want I'll be there. I have no problems with running through to the end, we have all weekend so we can always backtrack and explore other trails.

I'm not going to commit 100% to this venture until I hear about fire bans. As of today there is no ban, but I'm not holding my breath, it will probably be implemented soon, with this nice "cool" spell we're having.

Now remember, I'm not trying to push everybody to go to the end on day one. If people want to stop at Wells, that's fine. One way or another though, I will be at Loadstone on Friday.
Traci hasn't posted yet, but I'm sure she's not into running the trail. So, she will probably go the back route. I'm still up in the air. I'm bringing a friend along (co-pilot) and he hasn't gone four wheeling before. That is the only reason I'm even considering the full trail for myself. Normally I would go through Coalmont.
Marcin, are you wanting to take the back way as well? If anybody wants to go the back way through Coalmont, they should decide soon. This way we can get a better idea of exactly who's going which way.

Oh yeah, if you want to run the full trail on Friday, I agree with Rod. A start time should be 7am meet at Ricky's, have breakfast and out of there by 8. That way anyone eating at home and "7 is to early" can be there by 8.
Even if I go the back way, I will be leaving Coquitlam at 8am.

Well, I'm going to meet Gary T up in Princeton on that Friday morning, because he's visiting his sister up there or something. I expect he'll want to double back and do the Whipsaw Creek trail. Who knows; maybe not. If he decides he doesn't want to take his new BJ74 up the hard way, then I too would go in the back door at Coalmont.
I previously suggested that we should go somewhere else this year where we haven't been before, but was over-ruled by people saying that Whipsaw is a tradition, etc., etc. What, are we getting old or something; don't want to tackle the trail, just take the easy way out and go in the back way and skip the Skagit highlands and Falcon Hill? If we want to take it really, really easy, we could just put the DVD on our back patio and watch "Pirates of Mohav", suck on some suds, order a pizza, and look at Toyota Trails mags, and talk wheel'n on the phone. We could even sleep in our own beds and there'd be none of those pesky mosquitoes to bother us. We wouldn't have to worry about Rednecks with shotguns, bears, cost of fuel, or wear n' tear on the trucks either.
I also know of a cool trailer park right in the middle of Merritt that we could stay in, side by side with the trailers, for about $25. per night. They have an ice cream freezer and sell those cool Legend bars with the black chocolate covering. There's no mosquitoes there either because they spray poison all over the grounds.
