Which springs would you recommend?

Considering the price of the FOR and Ironman variable rate springs, I still recommend bags...

What springs and bags are yah running on this set up ?
Are they J springs ?
Any pics on how the airbags are set up in the coils ?

I am running the TJM heavies with the Airlift 1000 series air bags.

I pulled the pic off of an FJ cruiser site, but it is basically the same on my rig....

KliersLC thanks for the reply.. are the TJM Heavies the same length as the OME J's ?
 
I think they are comparable to the OME heavies, but with a 20 lb/in lower spring rate. I got about 3.5 inches unloaded when I first put them on, but they have settled to about the 2.5 inch range. Tires in the pics are 285 MTZs
 
Maybe this is a dumb question, but I've only ever played with leaf and coil springs. If I were to add air bags, how would I "air them up"? Would I need a compressor? Do they pop? Are there fittings to be concerned with? How long can I expect them to last? Were I to blow one (somehow), could I still drive the truck from the woods?

Not a dumb question. my 60 used to run on leaf springs and I added air bags. You dont need a compressor. I used my bicycle pump... I never had any issues with it and it help with heavy loads on long trips... I have had them for 2+ years no problem..

you can do the same to coils.. just need the right set up. I imagine if you were to blow a bag you would need to deflate the other bag and would be no problem...
 
okay, so cost-wise, how do TJM springs compare to OME? Are TJM heavies similar in load capacity to OME? I'm more likely to go with OME as their warehouse is only about 5 miles form my place... no shipping required.
 
If yah looking for new springs.. I would also suggest looking at the Slee and FOR springs...
I got OME cause that's what the rig came with.. I will run them and see how they do...

But it is hard to beat having their warehouse next door...
 
Slee had a fire sale on the tjms awhile back for 200/set. I don't think he has any more or any plans to get any. There may be another US vendor but I am not sure. Christo may be able to shed some light on that. IIRC king springs makes the coils for tjm and ome, so the quality should be the same.

You can air them up with a little 12v compressor, a bike pump, or an air chuck at a gas station. They "could" pop, but they are very sturdy--many buses and low boys use air bag suspension... There are a couple fittings--two at the bottom of the bag for air and two valve stem style fittings to remote mount for adding air. Mine are run through two of the holes in the factory bumper. I did another install on a tacoma where we ran them through the license plate holes. They should last well over 100k and if you blow one, just deflate the other and let the coil spring take the load--saggy rear end but no big deal.
