Hi-
I have the good fortune of owning an H55. I need to rebuild it and have to choose between various years for my rebuild kit. I don't know anything about the H55 other than it's for an I-6 and not a 4.
Are their any marks or deminsion changes between the years? How can I tell what I have?

One last thing, it's from Australia.

Thanks

Seth

I'm no expert, but if it has 10 spline input shaft, and 19 spline output shaft, then '80-'87 FJ or HJ60 application should get the right rebuild kit...FWIW

The 3F and 2H gearbox will have the starter motor on the RH side.

The 1HZ gearbox shaft has a 21 spline input shaft and slighty longer I think

Thanks for the info, but all I have is the tranny  . Is there anyway to tell by looking at the tranny?

Seth, the spline counts do identify the tranny, just don't account for any possible year-to-year changes that might have occurred internally...PM Cruiserdan on this forum, he's a Toyota dealer parts geek and can help you get exactly what you need.

Steve, Thanks. The internal bits were my concern. I'll PM Cruiserdan.

It will not matter 1) since mot of the internal bits are the same for all of them and 2) you should be to identify these differnces from the spline count.

The input shaft is the longer of the two on the transmission, the side that is designed to face the engine. Count the number of "splines" on the shaft that is designed to slide into the clutch disk. If it is 21 then it is a 1HZ. If it is 10 then it is for a H or F series engine. If it is for a B (fairly rare in Australia I bleieve) I believe it is a 27 spline input. Best, Andre

Andre- I wish it was that easy... If you look online in the US and Australia companies sell different rebuild kit's based on the year. The Kit year goes from roughly 82-85 and 85-90 etc. Two places I have looked are cruiser outfitters and lunds over in AU. Both places call out different kits for the H55 depending on the year. The spline count isn't the issue, I have a 10 spline H55. Now I need to figure out which year it came out of.
