New Cruiser ('91/80) owner here. Which Cruiser Repair type manual Do I want? This would be my First Cruiser manual. Should I go with the Owners Bible? I read some bad reviews about that so I'm not sure. I've heard Chiltons books suck. So can you guys give me some Good Informative type Cruiser book Names? Would this be a good book to get?
Toyota Landcruiser 1990-2002 Petrol/Gasoline 6 Cyl & V8: Automobile Repair Manual : 70'S, 80's & 100's Series?
Would like to try and Order one by this afternoon. So any help would be appreciated. Thank you

what's FSM? Sorry too new and I don't know CRAP about vehicles. I figured it's time to learn with the Cruiser. Thanks

FSM = factory service manual

Call Cdan @ 1(800) 432-6668 and he can take care of your need for the manual at a great price! :D

I was told that the FSM's tell you what factory tools and whatnot to use and don't give workarounds. Also I heard they give you Part # "whatnot" instead of basic name/term for each Part and tool to use. But this is just what I've heard. So help me out guys. Is that how it is? And will CDan get me this book or something? Is that what you mean? I need something that'll give Basic terminology for parts and whatnot. Something that might possibly give workarounds if I don't have right tool. Thanks mucho on replies guys. Let me know if I'm worng on the FSM's. Thanks again

Get the FSM, it is very usable. trust me you will like it.

wile you are at it get the EWD (electrical wiring diagram) and NCF (new car features)

you can also get electronic copies of those and more manuals for a small fee and some time, see the FAQ,

manuals

I went with the "engine and chassis" FSM, and also a Haynes manual.

The FSM lists several SSTs, which are specialized tools, whereas the Haynes is more for the DIY wrencher, and has alternatives to the SSTs.

I give my mechanic both books when he works on my Cruisers.

"Workarounds" are provided here!!!

:)

If you're going to do any real wrenching, the FSM is a must. It's a little short on whatnots... but typically explainations and diagrams make up for it. I've got the Chilton's, and every once in a while you'll run across some decent info./explainations that you won't get from the FSM, but typically Chilton's is not specific enough on the bigger procedures.

 and whatnot.

Well I was looking into downloading Manuals thru techinfo.toyota, but I don't know squat about Cars/Trucks/LC's, so I want to know how hard would it be for someone that doesn't know any real part names or anything really, to download all the Manuals for my 91 Cruiser? I would have no idea where to start and what to even look for or How to even tell if I have all the manuals I would possibly need. But man hard to beat $10 for all that Info. Thanks all
Oh yeah. What about Alldata.com. How's that info rate compared to Other service Manuals?

i got the manuals (fsm) and they contain a lot more info then the chilton/haynes etc. just look at the thickness of them. as far as tools go, some of it will look strange sst # blah balah blah. thats what should be on here a sst part list. containing all the real numbers and where to buy them.

The FSM will give you specific data pertaining to your year and model. Haynes and Chilton's give you info for the whole run of 80 series trucks, most of which are totally different than your 91. Buy the FSM, Wiring Supplement, and maybe the A440F tranny manual. I figured I'd never use the A440F manual, and I haven't needed it in the last 5 years. Ben Swain of Slee fame inherited it about 4-5 years ago anyway, and since I haven't needed it, I haven't missed it. He knows how to work on that stuff. Even if you can't tell the difference between a left handed metric crescent wrench and a right handed SAE crescent wrench, buy the manual as someone else will be able to tell the difference. Handy to have if you ever need service in a back woods locale. Shade tree mechanics can work on Fords and Chevy's, but sometimes having the manual may prevent a costly f'up in the outback rural areas of your state.

I take it you have read the thread linked in the FAQ, I wrote that so someone could repeat it, don’t know if I succeeded, you really don’t have to know anything about the info to download it you just need basic computer file and folder management skills, it is secretary kind of job. As for what to get I got it all.

After you get it all downloaded you do have to know what you are looking for to find specific pages but you will catch on over time. No one was every born a mechanic. Dive in.

I did Read the FAQ for it (like 3-4 times), but I still didn't understand how to Find crap and search through it. I'm too poor and stupid to pay the $10 to find out I can't find s*** on it. Thanks mucho

Crappy one,
by way of explanantion, cdan is a gentleman by the name of dan who is cruiserdan of american toyota in some god awful stinkhole bart of the south west...... He is a great guy and will sell you toyota parts and manuals at a substantial discount of what you will be able to find it for locally. the alldata stuff is cool but unless you like having grease on your laptop or you plan on printing hte entire thing out I would just get the print version.

as to the chiltons I have one, bought it before my fsm manual and used it to do some basic things on my truck. It will work for most minor parts changes and maintenance issues but not a substitute for the FSM.

That's cool. I have a Haynes one on the way. Still want the FSM. But would like it in on my PC so I can just Burn it and Print pages I need. Otherwise it'll get trashed. But I would like the book also. I just fig. hey it's just $10 for all the info I need. I just have NO idea how to look for that stuff. Do I just look up FSM or Factory Service Manual and it'll just give me everything in Manual to Download? Sounded tough to find things to me. Sorry might just be my understanding skills. How much is a paperback of the FSM? Well Thanks again guys.
