Well,

Cheap old me finally slapped leather for a Power Tank. (Thank you Christo :D ) I got tired of mooching off of fellow club members after each run....:flipoff2:

Now that I had one I needed to figure just where to put it so that it would be stored safely and in a place that would not get burried by all our other crap....

So after a few cheap beers, I came up with this:

boxthattank2.webp
box thattank3.webp

Hookup is accessed by sliding open the quarter window and the tank is removed from the box by tipping the rear seatback forward. Since these photos were taken I have covered the box with the same material that is on the drawers. I have not had good light to take additional photos but will do so this weekend. It looks much better covered.

zp ;olr yjr dofr eomfpe svvrdd/ That's "I like the side window access" when you're not on the home keys...

So, what's the angled cutaway for that goes top to bottom - ease of removal when you fold the seat forward a bit, or run out of lumber?

While I was typing that, you answered my questions....

2 thumbs up. Nice job.

Dan, that's almost exactly what I did for mine, except I was lazy and just bought a bracket. :D

I also liked the positioning as it would be very easy to hit all four tires. I go out the passenger slider, like you, or the driver side second row window. Check out these pics (tank stuff starts at picture #20):

Great job on your bracket, it looks very nice! You're gonna love your tank! BTW, Steve Sasaki (owner of Powertank) lives about two miles from me. Nice guy. Drives a sweet `85 4Runner. Let me know if you want me to get you some Powertank stickers.

Whats that little toyota badge to the lower bottom of the front sliding window? TRD badge?

Nice simple solution for the powertank, thanks for the pics

It's a "Toyota Motor Sports" badge that was fitted to a few 1998 Tacoma Pre-runners.

Ummmmm, does that come with the 1998 Tacoma Pre-Runner door or fender its attached to?

I DO NOT get auto-parts pricing ..... but I guess you probably do.

No, actually I'm stumped at times as well............

When I bought 'em about 6 years ago they were about 12 bucks each.

yeesh....Don't you wish you bought a few hundred?

Dan, that's a slick installation. Does the bottle fit tightly enough so it doesn't rattle around off-road? What happens if you decide to travel with the rear seats folded forward?

Does anyone have pics of a Power Tank installation in the back of a Cruiser that doesn't have a raised load floor? Thanx.

John

(Hijacking...)

Dan, is that quarter-inch aluminum on your tailgate? Permanently installed?

That's a nice mod - I need to take a slide hammer to my tailgate (80scool style) and pull it back out and fasten some AL to mine.

Very nice - mongo like!

Take another look at his second picture. There is a mounting bracket strapped to the tank. Then look at the fourth picture, you can see that bracket up against the plywood. My gues is that he has that mounting bracket fastened to the plywood somehow. Very nice installation!

John,
Chris Geiger posted pictures of his bracket about a year ago in this thread. I see that the pics did not survive the forum changes. I copied his design and made a few changes. My bracket is made from steel and is welded to the 3rd row bracket that bolts to the floor. Mine has multiple holes and will allow for a horizontal mounting (like Chris') or a single verticle or dual (back-to-back) verticle mounted tanks.

I'll try to post some pics but it will be sometime this weekend.

Good eye. It is 1/4 inch 6061 tempered. The sheet weighs 23 lbs and is secured to the gate with 6 mm counter-sunk machine screws. I set 6 mm Nutserts in the original clip holes. The gate is much sturdier now and the Coleman stove can sit on it without starting a fire
