How was hwy 4?

It was real nice. Snow was perfect for driving in. Not many people up there either.

Had a free day last Thursday and the "Big Storm" was just moving in so we blasted up to Iron Mountain Road. An 80 & a 100 out for a cruise and at first we just found ice covered snow.

Then it started to snow on us. We spent the afternoon cruising up to around 7000 feet and then it started to really come down. After the 80 plowed into the snow bank and had to get yanked back out, we decided to get out while we could.

And it kept coming down all the way down to 4000 feet. It wasn't snowing at the lake though.

Had a good time and I'm sure there is much more to play in now. The storm dumped around 16" of snow around there.

I am sure you are aware of the fire roads around Big Sur.....plenty of camping around hwy 1 between north of Ragged Point and south of Big Sur....Years ago some friends and I took a road near King City (hwy 101) west to the hills that featured vertical cliffs on a 1 lane dirt road (plenty of pucker factor) following a creek....don't remember the name of the creek...but the cliff diving was spectacular...if you enjoy that sort of thing.....man the water was cold though....

Hwy 1 does get closed during the winter in some ares due to mud slides....so check first.
