I get the distinct sense Toyota is clamping down. The infamous Jerry @ Midwest Superstore has changed jobs, and when you call you're informed "we no longer sell extended warranties." Combine that with countless internet searches that suggest Midwest Superstore and other places have been sent cease and desist orders for peddling low priced (but completely legal) warranties to out-of-state buyers. And then there's the added issue of me having sent emails/placed calls to 4 out of state dealers who have advertised discounted policies not returning my calls.

My strong suspicion is that either Toyota is strong-arming dealers to refuse sales that aren't in-person or in-state, or its their 2 major distributors trying to keep their dealers happy. Either way, it's starting to feel like an anti-trust / price-fixing "thing."

That said, I have neither the time nor patience to start a class action lawsuit :) I just want a cheap factory warranty. Anyone have experience with an out-of-your-state dealer who sold you one recently and care to post a name?

Edit: to add to the conspiracy theory: Toyota have removed the MSRP of extended warranties from their website, so it's no longer possible to determine whether a dealer is offering a policy at, below or above list price.

Expect to be in the $1800-$2200 range for 6/100K. Check, but I believe this will be a Platinum wrap, meaning it starts from the date of original vehicle sale.

Thanks Toby. I'm seeking the 8 year/125K option. Any idea what that would cost? I did get a quote from my dealer at time of purchase, but it seemed on the high side.

I got mine from Greenfield Toyota, but they only sell to people who can provide Massachusetts registration.

Katrina, you need to call him direct. One of the only guys I know still selling over the phone.

I tried to get a quote from Toby for my brothers cruiser last week. He has been locked out of selling them out of state as well.

This seems to be a pretty recent development.
I had bought several policy's from Toby in the past, some as recent as May 2015.

It would seem your best shot at a deal now is to call around to the dealers in your titeling state, asking for quotes.

Toby did tell me that he was not yet restricted on Lexus policies being sold out of state.

I'm no lawyer but I think Toyota is on problematic legal turf here. These recent developments are clearly just an attempt to limit competition and drive up prices.

It'd be akin to Hewlett-Packard telling its dealers/retailers they can only sell to in-state or in-store buyers. Goodbye e-commerce and competition.

Anyone look into this recently?

Sweet. Slickdeals... the Mud forum of retail. One of my faves. Thanks!

We were quoted 2600 for the 8/125
For the 7/75 the dealer where we purchased the vehicle quoted 1926...
A week later stopped by the dealer in the next town, quiet morning, finance guy had nothing going on, his prices were 500 less than the other, so for 1450 we picked up the platinum 7/75. Good hunting.

Jerry Johnson at Midwest is alive and well. I called him at 800-530-5789 in Kansas and talked to him for about 15 minutes. He used to live by me in Louisiana and I used to live in Kansas. His cell is 620-644-8844. He is the warranty manager. Anyway he sent me quotes for 4 year through 10 year warranties on 3/14/2017. The 7 year 75K is $1,180. I can see this is a good price for a Toyota. My wife has a 2015 Honda Ody van and I got a Honda 7 year 80K for $800, but that is another brand. All said Jerry is still there and a very friendly guy.

I thought the Toyota brand Platinum VSA was limited to 8/125. Those prices must be for an aftermarket brand if they go to 10 years? And, what's the per visit deductible on those quotes?
