Hey sorry for the noob post, but this is actually a hard topic to search for and should be a root level thread since everyone on ‘Mud buys Toyota. Did I miss it?

I’m shopping for a radiator and a handful of other parts, prefer to buy OEM. There are scattered recent posts about sales at Serra Toyota, World Toyota, etc. but their prices as of this posting are within 5% of my local dealership. I’m aware of the standbys like partsouq but their prices never seem competitive. Great diagrams, though. I think there may be a couple of dealership parts managers who are members here but it’s been a minute and I’ve forgotten their handles.

Uncle T seems to make it especially hard to cross-shop dealerships nationwide and shipping costs are absurd. What/where is the best way to sniff out the best (landed) prices on OEM parts?

Use this with your VIN to get the exactly correct part# for your truck

Then use this to find best prices around the world

But also keep an eye out for dealers offering 25% OFF + Free Shipping deals (Like Serra)
Others have had issues with shipping times with Serra but I think that dynamic is a result of getting hammered with orders when the Sale hits.
I've only had good experiences with them.

+ 3 on Serra. Their repack is second to none. You really have to get way down the checkout process to get the actual price, and it’s pretty stellar during the sales.

You try rock auto? Even with the 25% off Toyota sales and free shipping, rock auto has been cheaper for some parts.

A radiator is a big ticket item though so not sure. Usually those big ticket items like steering racks, axles, and brake boosters are way cheaper through Toyota (with the sale).

Rockauto does not sell OE Toyota parts

That site is not accurate. For example, 2 of my 3 local dealers list the radiator for roughly the same as Serra, but they don’t even show up. And one of the dealers that is shown on C4P as “not available” actually stocks it.

Welcome to the world of hunting parts.

If it was easy then it wouldn’t be any fun.

I have running lists of things ready to pull a trigger on when the 25% off sales happen. But I always build a cart on Partsouq, Amayama, etc just to see.

I have also used my local dealer for items I need next day. One of my local Mr T dealers participates in Costco’s Automotive 15% off program so I can get them down a little and most importantly… build relationships with the parts counter guys. Being friendly and doing some repeat biz has worked for the “good guy discount” quite a few times.

Last week I got an email from a Service Technician at Marietta Toyota Parts with the subject "UP COMING SALE"
The body of the email simply said, "Memorial Day sale coming May 19–26"

But they do sell Denso. So plugs, coils, etc. from the OEM manufacturer.
So… question about that. On Japanese cars I’ve owned, I almost always buy Denso radiators. That’s an option on hundys. How do we feel about Denso or Koyo radiators?

I don't know what to think about radiators for our rigs right now. I would ordinarily default to OEM Toyota no matter the producer, but I've heard of some OEM radiators only lasting two years after their predecessors lasting 25 years. I've also heard bad reviews on the longevity of Mishimoto which SHOULD be an OEM+ offering. Right now, I think it may be worth taking a flyer on Denso or Koyo as the opportunity cost seems so potentially low. Or buy OEM and preventatively seal the cap seam (Which is what has been failing prematurely of late) with JB Weld.

That's where you'd be wrong.

They also sell oe supplier brands like denso and aisin.

Yes, but Denso part in a Denos box is not as good (or even close) as a Denso part in a Toyota box., Same applies for all toyota supplier parts to same part in a Toyota box.

Yup, I recently bought a radiator directly from Toyota for my 2006 Corolla. Made in the USA. Mfd' by Denso, but Toyota's puts their name on it.

Rock Auto sells an OE (Denso) radiator for my Corolla for about 1/3rd of the price. Made in Taiwan. (could be worse... Denso is well known to produce their OE radiators in China for multiple other Toyota models)

For something as critical as a radiator I willingly paid the extra coin for the genuine Toyota part.

My 4runner, LC 100 all got Denso radiators (not toyota boxed) and 4runner is at 10 years and still good.. but planning to replace just because of the age. LC 100 got a Denso radiator for 7 years until a piece of fan blade struck it, until then, had no issues.

Any part in a toyota box is precisely engineered to toyota specs, than the OE manufacturers part in their own box (not according to toyota spec).

My 100 has what I think is a CSF radiator that is 11 years old with probably 150k miles. I just put a new Denso in my LX maybe 10k miles ago. There have definitely been a few horror stories on here with Toyota radiators, as well as Mishimoto. I don’t think you can reasonably judge radiators based on a few comments on a forum.
