Gents, had a little mishap tonight: Ever had your wheel come off at 55 MPH? I did...

Been putting off investing in a Hi-Lift (I know, I know...) but need one now - like, right now. I can get one from Amazon by Monday for $77 for a 60" and $84 for a 48" (strange how the shorter one is more expensive) but if you guys can recommend a local shop that I should give the business to (and isn't too much more expensive), I'm all ears. I live in Springfield, and proximity is a small factor.

Also, can you please recommend the best size for an FJ62 with an OME kit running 33s? Don't want a 60" hi-lift if I only need a 48". Thanks!

You can borrow mine if you need it asap. I'm in Burke so not far from you. The only places in the metro area to stock them will be Jeep or Rover shops. Iron Pig in Fredericksburg usually stocks them but it's a hike.

What are you planning that a floor jack or bottle jack can't accomplish?

Good point. About to order a 20 ton bottle jack from Amazon Prime Now, be here in a couple hours (love that service). Feel like I should get some jack stands too but they only have a 3-ton pair (would be more comfortable with 6-ton).

Just trying to figure out the way forward once I get the wheel back off (it's jury-rigged strapped-on right now - what we had to do to get it on/off the flatbed). The inside of the rim is scratched up pretty good but I don't really know enough about wheels to tell if it's good to go back on (after a rebalancing since some of the stick-on weights came off).

One poster on the story thread suggest swapping out all the wheel studs but they seemed pretty solid last night after the fact.

Any thoughts on the way forward? Will take until Wednesday to get a new wheel delivered from DT.

Check that - got the 3-ton jack stands, too. Local Toyota dealer has 7 rear wheel studs in stock, but those original studs are NINE bucks a piece! Anyone else think I should replace them? Or not enough info to go on yet?

@Dozer18 3 tons is plenty.

Hi lift is a field tool, they are great and you should get one for off road, but don't use it in the shop. Get a floor jack and 4 jack stands.
Thanks much - just got the bottle jack and jack stands delivered. Will get out there in a minute and get that thing off.

One other thing - what size hi-lift is best for a slightly lifted FJ62? (OME and 33s)

I have a 48 inch for my lifted 80 but I think several folks in the club have a 60 inch so it certainly wouldn't be wing to get the bigger size. Does your 62 not have the OEM bottle jack? They are well made and since they're screw types not hydraulic they're less likely to fail.

Biggest question is does your 62 have any lift points strong enough to use a hi lift? Stock bumpers won't hold up. And always remember that a hi lift is always trying to kill you. I use them as an absolute last resort. They're awesome when you need one but most of the time a regular jack is easier and safer.

See the for sale section in this forum there is one for sale.
