When I got my knuckle rebuilt kit from cruiseroutfitters.com, they didn't have the 54mm socket in stock. I figured I could find one locally, but no luck so far. I am doing the disk brake conversion starting Sunday. Does anyone know where I can find one locally? So far, I have tried Toyota dealership in Mesa (got strange looks), Checkers, Autozone, BAP and 4wheel Parts. I don't want to chance it getting here by this weekend if I order one on the net. I would prefer the 1/2" drive socket if I had my choice. I know the 2 1/4" is supposed to work. If I have settle for that, I will. Any help would be appreciate it.

The standard size your looking for is 2 3/32" the OTC part # is 1901 or the 1/2" dr. 54 mm is a 1950M. Carquest or Napa can order it, or you can barrow mine for the job.

NAPA usually has the 2 1/4 in stock, as does Sears for much less, along with the 3/4 to 1/2 adapter. I've had no problems using the 2 1/4, at those large sizes I don't think 1/32" matters.

Thanks guys. Kevin, if I can't find one, I will let you know. I am not usually the type to borrow tools from someone, because I don't want to chance breaking something that belongs to someone else. But a socket should be ok to borrow. If something happens to it, I will definitely pay you for it. I forgot to add Sears at Fiesta Mall to my list of stores. I was there on Saturday and didn't see anything, but maybe I was in the wrong section. I was kind of focusing on the mm sockets. I might have skipped the right size SAE socket. Anyway, I will try NAPA this week or Sears again. Thanks for the tips.

:whoops: 3/32" is a 1/32" under 1/8", the loose floppy socket is 2 1/8"!:D

Call Sears. The price will be half, at least. And you'll still spend over $30, IIRC.

I knew I should't open my friggin' mouth without walking all the way out to the shop and verifying the size. Sorry, I'd have felt really bad if you had purchased the wrong size on my say-so. Yes, the socket I have is 2 1/8", from NAPA, but I saw the same one and the adapter for about half the money at Sears (I wasn't pleased).

I dunno what you call 'floppy', those big-assed sockets usually are used at mucho foot poundage, I wasn't even slightly concerned with the fit at ~50 ft/lbs. Suffice it to say the 2 1/8" works for me.

Paid $20 for my 54mm socket. Got it off a Matco tool truck thru a friend.

call around to pep boys, they carry them but only one at a time and you may try 3 or 4 to find it instock,, i think its $22? otherwise i saw at least 5 of 'em at the greyhound park n swap last w/e.

Well, I went to Pep Boys after work. No luck at the Country Club & Southern location. Saw a Matco truck in front of a motorcycle shop and talked to the driver. He was kind enough to look up the part, but he said it would take 2 weeks to special order. Nice guy. Got his card in case I need something else in the future. Anyway, I really hope one of you guys will let me borrow yours for the job if I can't find one by Sunday. I will order one on the net to help someone else out in the future. Thanks for all the tips.

Who was the Matco driver?

You can use mine, I am right up the street from that Pep boys.

Got mine at Sears for about $20?.....

Damn flywheel nuts on rotary engines!

The Matco guy's name is Jason Garcia, I believe. I should have ordered one anyway so I will have it in the future and can loan it to others who need it. I will give him a call and see about ordering one. Kevin, I appreciate the offer. I will probably shoot you an e-mail by Friday. Thanks.

I found mine at a pawn shop, still cost $20 or so.

I have one you can borrow if you'd like. Got it at harbor freight as part of a big manly tool set. Everything is HUGE!

Anyway, I think the whole kit is about $20 and I saw them the other day so they're still there. (the one on Bell)

18 posts on where to buy a socket? WOW! We need to get out more often.

I got a little tired of going from store to store looking for one. Kevin (ToolsRUs) is kind enough to let me use his. He is also having a Matco guy order one for me. Thanks for the last tip though. Maybe someone else in the club will snatch that one at HF. Thanks.
