I installed an albright solenoid for my winch earlier this summer. It works fine...thanks mostly to info/advice from others on this forum.

https://forum.ih8mud.com/winching-recovery/485518-wiring-8274-albright.html

I wanted to install driving lights, and the best way required removing the solenoid from the motor. (See pic). So the question is where to re-install the albright? The easiest is to use the open space in the ARB next to the winch (see pic).

Easy isn't always best though. WASHDOT is starting to use salt on some of our mtn passes in the winter, and BC (where I go often in winter) uses salt. Should I do the extra work and install the albright inside the engine compartment? How susceptible would it be to water/mud/salt/grime in this open spot inside the ARB?

why don't you put it under the warns solenoid box?
Keep the cool look (yet again the winch without the solonoid box looks cool too)
Just a thought.

I had it under the warn box. Worked fine. And as you say, looks cool too. But it interfered with the lights. (The space occupied by the warn box was needed for the back half of the light.) No other place for the lights that I could figure out, so the solinoid needs to go somewhere else.

I used to have my solenoid box in the engine bay, keep it dry and protected .. right now I have my albright in the stock superwinch place .. but I will move soon to the engine bay too ..

The albright is supposed to be sealed. Did you find it to be a problem to have it installed outside the engine bay?

Looked carefully this afternoon, and found the solution. The overflow bottle was on the DS battery, but moved it to the air clearner housing. That left space for the albright, mounted on the DS battery (using the overflow bottle bracket to mount the albright). Install and wiring in a couple of weeks, due to business travel in a few hours...but at least I've got the basic plan figured out.

not yet .. but not enough testing .. actually I still have it in the winch .. we'll see

Ok, found some time this week to finish the Albright relocate. It's now mounted on the DS battery hold-down. It's controlled only through the in-cab switch, the external controller isn't installed yet. (That's why the blue and yellow wires are hanging loose.) Here are pics of how I attached it to the overflow bottle bracket, and then how it looks installed.

Ran the wires down along the fender...kinda following the ps cooler line, then through the front of the frame and then out to the winch. Two more pics to show how it turned out. A little hard to tell, but I ran the wires through some clear plastic 2" hose to prevent wear and shorting to the frame.

lovetoski, one thing you may want to consider is an edging for the cables going through the hole in the frame: if you can fit it or if the cables are ever out, take a piece of rubber hose with an ID roughly the thickness of the frame and slit it lengthwise. Then place the cut side in and work it until the hose ends touch.

Yep - got it already. It's hard to see though since it's a piece of clear plastic hose. It's super strong, tough hose, so should hold up to the edge abrasion really well.

love, I'm referring to creating an edging for the hole itself, but whatever works.

Oh, I get it now - duh. That's super easy, and I have some extra tubing that will be perfect - thanks!

What gauge wire did you use to remote locate your solenoid?

Used 2ga. Wire cost almost as much as the albright.

I ended up ordering 1 gauge for everything. Hopefully have it by the weekend so I can wire it all up.

Well so much for working on it this weekend.....Everything is here but My 600 amp Runva alrbright style solenoid. Looks like this is bumped till next weekend.

Well all my parts arrived so I decided to install my winch and wire up the Runva solenoid.

Here's how I mounted the solenoid.

What a beauty installation .. the only think that I would do different its the connector part in your perfect body .. with cheap wireless you could avoid that.
