I have been shopping for a 95-97 Curiser for awhile now. My big D should be finalized this week and since I am in the "handing out cash" mode, I figured now would be a good time to pick one up. And knowing that she can't claim half of it makes it a little easier. I had one that i wanted to purchase. A fellow Mudder was nice enough to take a look at it just to find out that it sold the day before. So now I am in full hunting mode again. I check Autotrader and Cars.com almost daily and I use the Craigslist search utility every couple of days.

Where else should i be looking?

I am being very particular so it may take some time but I am pretty anxious to pick one up too. She got the 4th Gen V8 4Runner and I got the beater. (1995 Accord with 185k) So you can probably understand why I am a little anxious.

Well, to make a short story long, here is what I am looking for.
Need:
95-97 Cruiser (or LX450)
Minimal frame rust with NO rot and NO body rust
Lockers
Tan Leather (just not a big fan of gray leather)
3rd row seats
Under 150,000 miles
Clean and (relatively) dry engine
East of the Mississippi
Under $10k

Wants:
NO rust anywhere
Leather in great condition
Burgandy color
Under $8k

Just for the record, I have cash waiting for the right rig and I am willing to pay a FAIR price. Somewhere around KBB good condition price seems fair to me for one that is actually in good condition.

Thanks, and :flipoff2: to all

over 150k but...

Hi J...mine has over 150k but meets your other requirements. I have it posted here on IH8mud and also craigslist. I have someone coming to look at it tomorrow....

Good luck in your search! My search took a long time, even down here in San Antonio. Not too many locked LC and LX450's around.

P.S. I am going through the big D, too as we speak. Going to mediation this, or next Monday. I understand and feel for you. It, or at least mine, is unpleasant and time consuming. Mine also involves a 20 month year old daughter. Not fun. But I understand your position. Good luck and let me know,

I've bought 3 vehicles long distance. Open up your horizons, look in CA, NM, AZ, TX, etc. You'll find tons of rust-free rigs that meet all your requirements. It's not that big of a deal to have someone on here check it out, then if you get a good report, have in thoroughly inspected by the local toyota dealer. If all goes well, lay down a deposit and either fly/drive or ship.

You're right, IMHO you want absolutely ZERO rust anywhere. You'll find those rigs in the West.

A friend bought a "minimal rust" rig from VA, has minimal frame rust and no body rust. He regrets it to this day. Everytime he tries to unbolt anything underneath, the bolts break off. makes changing anything under there a major PITA. My trucks (zero rust) are a breeze to work on.

I hear ya, I have 2 daughters, 17 months and 3 years old. So far we havent needed to go to mediation. It has been as civil as a divorce can be i guess.

As far as rust, I live in Maine, so I know all to well about rust and corrosion. That is why I have decided to travel. I have access to stand by buddy passes on a major airline so last minute travel isn't that much of an issue. I was just hoping to keep it on this side of the Mississippi so I could drive back in two days. I would go further it the rig and price was worth it.

Thanks for all the help and hopefully soon I will be able to contribute a little more.

Even though I found mine in Arkansas, focus on the Southwest/4Corners...

And don't allow absent lockers to be a deal breaker, ARB makes a locker for these yah know? Plus unlocked cruisers have a better chance of not having been abused or simply utilized less completely. Grab a SoccerMom/Team Cupholder that was taken to the dealer for repairs and scheduled service and is documented. A Country Club 80 is what you're looking for. That way, all the mod work will be under your supervision. And find a cloth interior rig and add the far superior leather that AATLAS1X is offering. The factory leather is dry and thin and barely holding together in most these rigs. New leather is an easy way to guarantee it will stay nice.

Best place to shop is right here on MUD. It may take a little bit of patience, but one will pop up here that will be what you're looking for. Plus, the odds are the seller here will more than likely be honest in describing the rig and what is wrong with it. Any mods done to the vehicle will most likely be done correctly.

Plus, I agree with Trapper50cal. Don't let the locker thing be a deal killer. These are real capable rigs without lockers. I've got 'em on mine, but to be honest, for the off road work that I do, I've never really needed them.

I agree I probably don't need the lockers. But I know that i will not put them in if they aren't stock. I do have the ability to do it myself (many years as helicopter mech) but rationalizing the money with two kids would be tough. SO, I hope to find one with them already installed. If the price was right, I may consider it though.
Thanks

FYI, I bought my '97 LX450 last August for under $10k from a Mudder. Only difference from you're wish list was that it was west of the Mississippi and had 156K miles. Oh, and it had an ARB front bumper, Kaymar rear, winch, sliders, lift, dual battery set up, cb, etc. If you're willing to go between 9-10 grand, you'll find a nice rig here.

I agree I probably don't need the lockers. ... If the price was right, I may consider it though.

Ok before you mark it off, i just want to say yes it has no lockers, and YES the ENGINE only has 105k miles.

There is 2 small dots of rust, and another dot on the lip of where it says "LANDCRUISER" on the back. But i went to autobody, and he said it was so minimal, that it would be fair to write "no rust vehicle"

Check it out, only $5900, been taken great care of. Have all repair records and reciepts.

Going through your list....
-It has 1995 landcruiser :P
-It has tan leather (seats are in good condition, driver has usual wear)
-It has 3rd row seats
-Under 10k (KBB put it at $6900)
-It has minimal rust
-I live right near Minneapolis, so I can be east of the mississippi in about 15mins.
-It has a nice clean rebuilt engine, had compression test done, and it came out great
