Where is my coolant going/slash where should it be?

Hi all, I am hoping someone can shed some light on this for me.

A while back I noticed that my coolant reservoir was below the Low fill level. Long story short, I monitored it, discovered that the radiator on these (13 200 Series) has a bad seam at the top where the P/N is that eventually fails and causes some coolant loss - this was noticeable at first by some visible, dry coolant near the top, then more obviously at the seem with more dried coolant.

I decided to pre-emptively replace the radiator because of some upcoming trips but kept seeing after the replacement that despite filling the reservoir halfway between Low and Full, after the car was cooled, the next time I checked the car again (after normal operation and cooling over night) the coolant in the reservoir eventually returns to below the Low level.

I had the dealer inspect, discovered the fabled exchanger leak (valley coolant) and got it all fixed.

What is crazy is that despite this, the car still shows the same issue. Filled between Low and Full when cool, driven normally for a few miles, check it next morning when cool and I've lost some coolant.

Car has 168k miles on it, impeccably maintained, dealer serviced always, using Toyota specific coolant, topped off when cool.

Pic shows where I find the coolant after any top off to the halfway point.

I would think these systems are sealed and I should not be losing any coolant - can someone explain what is going on? How should manage the coolant etc.?

There will be air in the system that needs to be burped, so depending on when the radiator and valley plate were done you’ll need possibly a number of cycles to get all the air out

If it keeps show up low you can have someone pressure test the system. You are correct though, it is sealed and shouldn’t lose any.

It could still be working some air out. Top it off correctly again. If it happens again after that and you don’t see any external leaks anywhere it might be time to pull the passenger side spark plugs and explore with a bore scope.

If you're confident the radiator replacement and valley plate fixes are fully resolved...
And the system is burped...

You might replace the radiator coolant cap. I've seen on occasion (with other models) where the coolant cap prematurely opens, causing excess fluid loss through the external reservoir.

Still worth a pressure test too.

You may have a head gasket failure on Cylinder 5 or 7. are you getting white smoke out your exhaust after warmup? may need to pull those two pluses and check with a borescope

Try filling the reservoir all the way to the full mark, or even a bit past that. It will help with the burping by preventing the reservoir from going dry, if that's the issue.

Be cognizant that the water pump may also "weep" intermittently through the weeping hole, in the event of foreign debris. Coolant loss at the water pump can be a bit tough to spot from above, and can resolve itself if foreign debris is pushed out of the weeping hole. Just another spot to check for dried coolant.

Worth mentioning also that if a water pump is frequently "weeping" it's a good sign of a failing water pump seal.

How many times have you done the heat/cool/ refill? It can take 3, 4, 5 cycles to get all the air out, depending on how well it was drained, and any air pockets left behind. Be sure to run the heaters (front and rear) on full hot next time to hopefully get any air flushed out.

I have a 2013 with 165K. Seems I have the same issue but looks to be coming out the back of the engine and visible pink coolant residue on the skid plate. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Toyota tech is saying possible head gasket but... that's Toyota.
I haven't done the valley plate fix yet.
Thanks Doug

Should be the valley plate. Lots of info on the topic in this forum section.
