I'm getting an ARB Air Locker installed in the Front of my 80 and was wondering where everybody else put the switches . . .

Has anyone replaced their 'coin holders' with the switches?

Anyone with pics of where their switches are located?

Put em down on the dash next to your rear heater switch.

They are a perfect fit in the factory switch opening next to the rear heater switch as Dan stated. All you need to do is cut the clips on the ARB switch to hold it in the opening securely.

Is there room for three switches there? I don't have a rear ARB, but that's in the plans. . .

why in the front first?

The ARB switches are pieces of crap. I use the OEM diff lock switch for mine.

When you guys say use the OEM diff lock switch, do you mean use the actual switch or get more like them?

To answer your question e9999, there are two reasons, some people recommend that if you're going to only have one locker it's better if it's in the front as it supposedly works better. The second reason (and really the only reason I'm doing it first) is because the ARB that I had in the rear of my 4Runner will fit the front diff on the FJ80. I don't need to buy a new locker so why not?

I installed my ARB swithes in those blank spots to the left of the steering wheel. My website is down thanks to a Zone Alarm update or I would offer pics.

Another note... You should NOT add a locker to the front before doing the rear. The ARB setup as the OEM is designed so that the rear must be locked before you have the option of locking the fronts. Install a rear ARB first, then save up for the fronts. With only the rears you will be amazed at how deep you can get yourself in......

I agree, install the rear ones first. If you gotta install only one, then install the rear one. The front one is less effective when you're climbing.

As for the switch, I use the OEM switch. It's setup so that the rear one locks first then front/rear lock second.

Install them in whichever order you want - especially if you're not paying for the front. These comments about climbing better etc are total bunk. I don't give a rats nest about how the ARB is designed to work. You can make it work any way you want it to, almost. When my rear locker went crapola mid trail the other year, I simply swapped the pigtails off the selenoids so the front would fire when the switch said to fire the rear. Worked great and got me out of a jam. Oh yeah, this was the day my engine blew on the trail, so it was kind of important that this idea work.

OK Junk, so you say you futzed around with the wiring and then your engine exploded and you're happy you played with the wiring.... I see....
hmmm.....

on your 91 you can move(wiring is long enough) the rear heater switch to the other unsed position and put both ARB switchs next to each other. If you have the ARB compressor switch and front and rear then mount the comp switch someplace else, but ya want the 2 locker switchs next to each other.

not easy to see but you will get the idea.

dang LP, can't you cram a bit more stuff on your center console?

that a roll of TP hanging on the right???? :D

No, thats not TP on the console. He hangs the rolls of TP on a bungee strung between the grab handles over the 3rd row.

Ah, I see! Smart! Got the grab handles already, a bucket judiciously placed and he's all set to go (err...)! :D

Rodger Roger, what's your vector victor? Nice cockpit!

You need to wire up some speakers in series for in the dash and get rid of that clunker speaker!

This is prcisely the reason I installed pneumatic switches for locker operation in the other vehicle. Unfortunately, running air lines inside the cab is something folks don't like but it sure is simple - no more electrical switches or solenoids!
