Where are the 80 series converts?

No question about it. The 100 will do everything the 80 does.....just a little better in virtually every respect. Stronger, smoother, stops better, rides better, more comfortable, better a/c, etc. Don't get me wrong, I've had a half dozen of each, and I still have one of both. From a daily driving standpoint, there's really no comparison. The 100 beats it hands down. Off-road, many will tell you the lockers in the 80 are far superior, but don't let them fool you into believing ATRAC is a slouch! There are many who will tell you it's 90% as effective......and I tend to agree! I've taken my 100 in the same exact places I've taken my locked 80, and the 100 did just as well.

While I prefer the looks of an 80 over a 100, that's the only shortcoming for me. In every other respect, the 100 works better. Don't look back. I'm betting within a week of owning it, you'll like the 100 better!

That's a pretty clean rig for that mileage and year. My 2000 doesn't look anywhere that nice inside. Looks like its been taken care of.

Yes it looks very well taken care of and the owner is a mud member. That goes a long way in my book. Hoping to have something finalized early next week.

ATRAC vs Lockers

So my '96 80 series has been out of commission due to my brake booster going out.

Swapped out booster over turkey week. It's up and running. It's been about 3-4 months that I have not driven my 80 series. In the mean time I have been driving my fairly-new-to-me 100 series.

For the first time in a long time I'm considering selling both of my 80 series.
The 100 rides so much nicer. Night and day. And now the '96 seems so slow.

I just know that I wouldn't beat up the 100 the way I do the 80.

(Jedi Mind trick at use) I know you want to sell me that monk mobile 80. Send me a PM if you are serious about selling it.

Only drawback I've seen in our 2003 100 is Mr. T shrunk the door panel cubbies back to their useless 62 size to make room for a speaker. Small price to pay for those heated seats though :smokin:

Why

Why do you have to go and post that? You're going to make me cry. I miss my 80 everyday.

I have a 94 going up for sale.......

To the OP...made the same move you are doing/did from an extremely nice and locked 80 series to a 100 series. Certain aspects of both vehicles that I prefer over the other. Overall the 100 series is a much better and more comfortable vehicle for how I use the land cruiser, which is mainly as a commuter to and from Colorado and weekend trips with the family. The extra interior room and additional power from the 2UZ make it much more comfortable on the road than the 80 series. And the 100 takes me everywhere the 80 would take me. There's a certain nostalgic feel of the 80 series that I miss (along with the solid front axle and diff locks), but overall I'm happy with the 100.

If you're still in SA, come out and visit with us at one of the ACLC meetings. Will likely have one this weekend or next.

I'm in the same boat. My locked 80 has been great and has a high degree of sentimentality (drove to the hospital in a massive snow storm to have our daughter and a lot of great memories). But... engine is losing power, burning oil, the newly-rebuilt driver's seat still kills my back, and the list of little things I really need to fix has grown to a mile long. So conflicted. Not a fan of the stock 100s and the inventory is ridiculously small here in the Pacific NW. I know it's probably time to move on, but just so afraid I'll regret selling the 80. No room or $$ for two. :(

To agree with most everyone here you will not regret the loss of the 80 once you are in a 100. Its as capable as my 80 ever was and then some. The V8 makes towing better, I opted for an LX version and its like riding in a sensory deprivation chamber comparatively. Never noticed how much noise the 80 made until I rode in my 100. The 100 has better road manners, is more refined in every way, and I'll reiterate, cant see a single loss of off-road capability. Also, of note, we are starting to see more and more that 80 series are running out of OEM parts availability. The 60 guys have been going through this for awhile, as have the 40 series folks. 100 series trucks are your sweet spot right now for parts availability and overall affordability.
