The car has 270.000 is it wise to replace the flywheel also when instaling a complete new clutch kit ?

And are there more things that are wise to replace once the whole s*** is losen up for the new clutch kit ?

hope to get reations soon cause then i can start making the (order and plan the operation;):steer::))

Ok thanks !!

What is a reasanable price to let a 3b flywheel machined ?

And is it just rebalancing by schaving some iron of the wheel or is there more they do when they machine it ?(just currius)

I get it done for $50 here in the Bay Area... generally our prices are expensive, I think.

They don't rebalance it, generally. They just mill off the old friction surface, which will be cracked and heat-damaged.

alright so they actualy clean the surface of the flywheel so that the new clutchplate has more grip ?:hhmm:

And how can i see if the fly wheel needs to be machined ?(or do you have an recomendation on a certain number of kilometers when its good to be done ?)

Thanks again !

They dont clean it,they machine or grind it by taking off a thin layer of metal. There is no set mileage that it should be done at,you just do it every time a new clutch goes in.
You need to get someone who has some experience at doing this. The surface must not be too smooth or too rough.
The surfaces must match so you get maximum frictional grip

You can ignore it ,but you may get half the life or less from the new clutch.

The place I bought my clutch from machined it for free when I got the parts, as said above, there is not set mileage to do it at. You do it because you currently flywheel is most probably not flat and doesnt have a good surface for a new clutch.

Example, a well abused flywheel with hot spots that wont grip the clutch plate.

A freshly machined flywheel with a nice grippy surface

Wow that new machined flywheel looks awesome !!!:bounce::hillbilly:

you can see the grip profile realy nicely !!

Is it possible to adjust the clutchplate very precicely so that when you push the clutch pedal to disengage that the clutchdisk is just a verry little 0.4mm(or something) off the flywheel ?

So that when engaged it push nice and hard ;) for maximum friction ?:steer: (gues would be good cause the car in this case has a turbo fitted and im planning for 35 or 37 wrangler mt/r,s when my bfg 265/75r16 are worn out or:idea: i find a ritch woman:banana::doh:)

The springs inside keep it at the correct distance and give maximum clamping pressure. You just put it on in the correct manner and it does the rest for you

Alright ! good to know !

What other bearings and seals shoud we change when the the whole assembly is apart for changing the clutch ?

I red the spigot bearing for example..? anybody good advise on this from experince ?

(IL WILL POST PICTURES AND MAYBE VIDEO IF I FINALY GET THE CAR NEXT WEEK !!):beer::steer::wrench::clap:

When the flywheel is off,it easy to do the rear main oil seal.

rear main
pilot
surface the flywheel
disc
pressure plate
release bearing
lube the rocker point for the fork
observe the front bearing retainer of the tranny for any signs of leaking
observe the input shaft of the tranny for any signs of play
install
done.

Alright im realy thankfull for all the wisdome and help !

And when i got the car here with me in the garden of the house i want to realy pamper the girl to get her running another 25 years and thats what my next question is about,

What are engine parts that known as wear parts wich are wise to check or replace ? (already red alot about the camshaft bearings of the 3b here on i8mud) so are there more engine "wear" parts that is schould check ?

The car was advertised with 270.000 kms but im almost positive it have more than the odometer shows (becouse i had a 366.000kms 1986 lj70 with 1e factory clutch witch still worked great !)

1 realy nice thing is that i bought it from the 1e owner ! and he had the toyota stealerschip putting a turbo on it !:princess:

Also it has aircon installed in the old 1986 born girl !:candycane::cheers:

Yes i think i understand from other topics i red on this wonderful forum.

But the PO was not a woman or some stupid who dont know any thing of mechanics so ?

But indeed most assumable it had be the driving style as you say becouse he was offroading alot with it as he honestly told.:hhmm:

Any more tips or recomendations ? i would realy verry much appriciate !

May be worth while upgrading to a 13BT clutch assembly, you *may* need a 13BT flywheel too, I dont know if a 3B fly wheel can be machined to 13BT specs or if the 13BT clutch will bolt to it.

3B clutch -260mm
13BT clutch 275mm

yes would be very nice !!! gues the 13bt clutch has also a lot more clamping pressure !?:steer:

I hope it will fit but dont know also ?:whoops:

When i buy the car this week i have to drive 1100 km,s with it so are there more things i must look for to not have a BROKE DOWN THAT FARE FROM HOME ?:frown:

Yes i surely see the importance of taking my time for repairs but the car is 1100kms from home !

I got a friend there who suggested me i could sleep 1or2 nights at his couch there but for a good revision its not the place there ! (dont have own space and tools there) so can not work in relax way then.

But what are things that i could do before the long 1100 km trip home to get me safe home ?:steer:

Red about the precups fall out and such things but thats not something i can check before the trip offcourse:wrench:

But what CAN i do to prevend any problems on the journey ?

drive 80 k/h
check coolant level every stop
make sure you check ALL fluids before you leave (engine oil, diffs, tranny, t/case)
check hoses and belts
make sure the brakes are up to snuff.

check the clutch by putting the front tire against a curb or log, keep your foot off the throttle, put the shifter in 4th and let the clutch out. the engine should die, if it keeps running with the clutch out, no throttle being applied then the clutch is on its last legs and should be changed before heading out.

other than this make sure no holes into the cab area if a hard top is installed for the drive. if holes then aluminum tape will work to keep the fumes out.

if all is acceptable then just relax and drive it home
