I've searched and could not find a vendor for my application. I'm buying a off road trailer and I need some aftermarket wheels that will also be able to fit my 80. Does anyone know of a company who sells the not to expensive steel wheels ($60 - $80)? For some reason I can't find the exact size when I search for 16x8, 6 lug, 5.5 center, 4.5 backspacing. It's the backspacing I can't match up right.

What would happen if I used a wheel with a 4.25 back spacing?

Thanks, CV

I think having matching wheels on both truck and trailer is way over rated. In reality you aren't ever going to need a spare for the trailer - you are going to be dragging it over all kinds of nasty terrain, but the tires aren't going to be subjected to excessive spinning or side torque like the tires on a 4x4. Trailer tires rot before they wear out or otherwise fail.

Just get a spare for the trailer - a steel 15 inch trailer wheel is cheap and works fine for narrow 31 or 33 inch tires. You do NOT need super wide tires on the trailer - they cause problems on the pavement. If you really need a second spare for the truck for a major expedition, throw it in or on the trailer for that trip only. Or tie it to the roof of the truck.

Summit has a 16" steel wheel with 4.25 bs for about $50. It will work fine on an 80. Here is a pic of them on my mini-truck.

So you're sure a 4.25 BS will work without rubbing? I don't mean to question your technical knowledge but I just want to be sure before I invest in these wheels. I appreciate your input.

I don't really need matching (cosmetically) although it would be more of the cool factor. I already bought the two of the same size tires as my truck has now so I need to use a 16 inch wheel.

Thanks for the pics, that's a sweet looking set up. How much weight can you put on that ball attachment? Do you think I could do the same if I used the stock bumper with the 4 bolt pattern setup and an adventure trailer weighing about 1400 lbs fully loaded?

I had 285 MTs on these rims on my 80 and wheeled it a number of times with no rubbing. I had the standard 2.5" OME lift on it.

I wouldn't recommend it. The stock bumper is nothing but flexy plastic and the frame crossmember isn't all that thick. If you had a stout aftermarket steel bumper it would be no problem.

With my Slee bumper and the Treg coupler I am happy to pull 2000 pounds every now and then, and 750 pounds week after week. The Treg itself is rated at 3 Metric Tons, or about 6600 pounds. And BTW the US importer is no longer carrying the coupler - you would have to order one from Oz unless another US source has opned up lately ;(
