Hello guys, apreciate all your help in this regard.

I've been reading lots of threads about wheels and tires, yet I haven't been able to find one that anwers all my questions. I have a 1976 bone-stock Toyota FJ45 with 16" split rims, but I would give it a different look at it, and was thinking on putting on some new wheels.

What do you think about Mickey Thompson's Classic III 15x10 with some 31x10.5r15 on stock suspension? I know that the maximum wheel width for this tire is 9" as per manufactures specs but I've seen them on 10" rims and look somewhat nice, I'm also aware that with this configuration the tire is prone to daflation issues.

The second option and even more sensate one would be to buy MT Classic III's 15x8 and use 31x10.5r15. The thing is that I'd want to put bigger tires in the future, maybe 32x11.5's or even 33x12.5's, so the 10" wide wheel would suit better these tire sizes.

The other option I'm considering is MT Classic III's 16X10" and 285x75r16 tires, not sure about the fitment.

My main concern is the rubbing issues with fenders and tie rod ends because of the stock suspension, also this whole backspacing and offset thing that I don't get but from what I've seen MT Classic III's doesn't have issues on FJ's.

Thank you guys for your opinions and experiences.

Id say to go straight to what it appears youll probably end up with anyway: the 15x10's with 33-1250r15's (pick the wheels you like best). keep the skinny 16's so the rig keeps the OE wheels around (easy to sell, seemingly always hard to find later if you want them back). I Might think about installing some longer shackles to gain 1.5-2.0" of lift so it looks proper and clears better.

Ive read 3.25 to 2.5 backspacing is appropriate but have your wheel provider tell you what fits then test one of the wheels on both rf and lf before you mount anything to make sure it clears that tie rod.
...otherwise if you stay with the 31-1050's, which I would recommend the 8.5's, not 10" wide.

post up what you end up doing

Murf, Thank you for your answer. The problem is that I'll be buying the wheels and tires online, so it's impossible for me to check fitment before I place the order. I will check on longer shackles, to avoid possible interference. I'd love to find 15x9 wheels but I don't believe they're available in Colombia, at least not in MT catalog.

Has anyone tried 33x12.5 on 15x10 wheels on stock suspensión? Or maybe 285x75r16 on 16x10 wheels? Pics would be appeciated.

I'm not concerned a out clearance isses with 31x10.5r15 on 15x8 wheels, not sure about 15x10 wheels, maybe this set up would require wheel spacers?
