Can anyone tell what the wheeling is like at the Peters Mill Run / Taskers Gap area? We're taking the kids camping at Elizabeth Furnace and I was think about tooling around in the truck, but I don't want to head back there solo with the kids if it is too hairy.

It's basically a dirt road with a few bumps.

Don't even need 4wd. Might need a bow saw though. I had to clear a few fallen trees last time I was up there after a storm. You will prob bump into more mountain bikers and quads than trucks.

Cool. Hopefully the kids will get a kick out of it.

Have not been there for a couple of years. Like a drive in the country.

We just got back. More time combining rain and tents! We drove Peter's Mill looking for firewood and it is pretty boring as far as wheeling is concerned, but the kids had a blast while we looked for animals and the there is certainly wood to be had.

Have you ever camped at the Rapidan Wildlife Management Area near Madison? Nice primitive camping next to the Conway river.

It was nicer when we could wheel there bob, right? The last hill up to the waterfall was fun. I think that was one of the last runs I made with Jurlando

BK,

Yes, it used to be a great place for a day trip or an over-nighter. A couple of fun trails and some great camping spots. It was great to set your tent up next to the river and hear the water gurgle all night (makes me want to pee). Too bad some bozos decided to go off trail and then post pics on the Web.

I'll have to check my Gazeteer for directions to my favorite spot.

Follow the directions to Middle River Tract on the link below. When you see the sign and gravel parking lot for RWMA continue 2.3 miles and you'll see a turn off to the right (look close). This is the larger site that will accommodate several tents. If you continue north, you'll see additional turn-offs with spots to camp. Let me know if you want to go and can use some company.

Looks like you need to buy an access permit now. You can do this online via the above link. If you buy an annual permit, buy the hunting permit (unless you want to fish) because the state gets a higher federal match.
