had a good day at Rausch Friday with the 4Runner Jamboree. actually the park was virtually empty except for our group and one other group of six trucks. I camped Thursday night at rausch and it was a relatively quiet night good for sleeping.
Of course we awoke to rain Friday morning, a rain that didn't stop all day long. It didn't keep us from having a good day of wheeling. In the group I led were Bob Bascom from VA, Dan the man Friedlander, John Smith, big Dan in his newly completed 4Runner (From the metro DC area) and Alan Davidson in his SOA solid axle gold 4Runner. alan came all the way up from North Carolina. Tom (one of the Polish Brothers from CT) came down, too, and rode shotgun with me and spotted.
We started out heading to the West property then cut up the hill to the road to the South. Headed straight for Snakebite but had a detour at the Quarry. John Smith showed us what a Toybox and dual lockers mean as he negotitaed the loop in the quarry. That "trail" more chewed up all the time. From there it was on to snakebite. No problems there, except for some interesting off-camber moments in the second section.
From Snakebite we headed back out and down the hill on H to 12A. It was a neat ride and believe me, quite wet down there. As a matter of fact i don't ever remember seeing water run down the trails at Rausch but it was doing so everywhere in the park Friday. 12A with the stream crossings was fun, from there we went across 11 and had some fun on 14 in the mud and slop. When we were through there we went down to the end and made the loop all the way around to the power line then back up top. We did the power line all the way back and had a great time. There were puddles everywhere on the power line and the nasty hole there was full- water was running over the edge and down an adjacent trail.
From our club I saw JT in his 4Runner- looks great- and Andy in the green pickup (with some interesting retread tires to boot!!!). Other then them nobody else looked really familiar other than Bruce Brosson, a guy who works at carpenter and has a neat 85 pickup.
Thanks to the guys for a good time and an adequate (!!!) supply of beer. We're all looking forward to Coal mine, heck, it's in less than five weeks away. Anyone gonna get to CMCC? Gary
